The car is definitely a Phantom, not an SG Gemini SLX. The Gemini had large cut outs in the rear and two tie rods to enable you to adjust out any chassis tweak. The SG also used its own design front suspension, rather than the Associated ones used on the Phantom. The Phantom was designed and built by Neal Francis, Bill Maisey and Tom Morgan. when they won the European Championships in 1981 demand was so great they had to put it into production. They were all built by Tom Morgan in limited numbers, very few of them left the UK. Schumacher built the XLS and Phil Greeno developed the Gemini SLX, which was then made by SG, both of these were much bigger sellers. To confirm that it is a Phantom here's an advert for the Phantom from Radio Race Car Issue 8 http://www.thetechshed.co.uk/tamiyaclub/phantom.jpg Here's a picture from the manual of the Gemini SLX http://www.thetechshed.co.uk/tamiyaclub/geminislx.jpg And here's a picture of my own Schumacher XLS http://www.thetechshed.co.uk/tamiyaclub/schumacherxls.jpg It is an excellent example you have there, most were destroyed while racing (like my XLS) with split chassis. Very specialised cars that only really worked on very low grip surfaces it was amazing how much grip they generated. Hope this helps sort this out for you. Cheers Terry.sc
