Getting there slowly
cherrybomb

Cheers Badboy. Yeah, I'm gonna have to cut the body for the shocks. It should look like the real thing. I've just got to wait for the chassis to be finished. It has 12mm wider front track so i need it before I go cutting the body.

Thunder tiger challenger 1984
tamartin

I had a Challenger as my first gas buggy. I never could get the friction material to stick to the brake properly. Went like stink, but wouldn't stop!!
That looks in great condition......I might have to look out for one now I've seen yours.

Getting there slowly

The shocks seem to work great, but they were a real pain to fit. The fronts were OK, but the rears needed new upper and lower mounts fabricated. The lower mounts needed to be moved inboard to clear the wheels which was done with a bolt on nylon adapter. I'll put some more pics up of the rear mounts when I get a chance.

Class 5 project.

Errmm! What can I say? I'm a bit stunned by the reaction if I'm honest. Thanks very much for all your comments, I hope the finished thing lives up to them. It's been loads of fun working on it so far, now I'm going to be terrified of messing it up! :-).

Class 5 project.
cherrybomb

Thanks for all the positive comments, I hope I can live up to them.
I've not really thought about engine detail yet. That will be treated as a separate job when the rest is finished, cos it will probably take as long again as the rest has! There will be some detail though, an oil cooler and some remote reservoirs for the shocks on the cage are planned.

Finished class 5 body
cherrybomb

Thanks guys.
Tamiya Monkey, the cage is made from standard modeling plastic rod and tubing. I heated it with a hot air gun to bend it, and quenched it in cold water to make it stay in shape. It's glued with poly cemment and a bit of pressure and the tube ends were shaped with a small diameter round file. Hope that helps.

Custom chassis and roll cage build
Bin ^jammin^

That's looking very interesting, I've been having similar thoughts myself for my next scorcher project. The front skid looks fine to me if you're going for the racer look. The angles about right, it just needs to taper towards the top a bit. (Just a thought)
The bar just keeps getting higher every week. Cool!

Finished class 5 body

Cheers Badboy. The front end isn't mounted yet, it's having a shock tower brace / front mount fitted when I get the chance.

Cheers for the comments. It's just one of them things, I see a load of bits and have to build something! :-) The shocks are Dark Impact on the front (PN DF03-01/LB ) and F103GTs on the rear (PN F103GT-07/LB )

Cheers mokemyster. Yup the collection is growing every day! The rough rider has coil conversions on the standard shocks (£20 + P&P to TC members! :-) ) Two of the others use 3racing shocks of some description. ;-)
