Bought this mini z chassis on ebay, then added the shell.

Yes guys the exhausts really work ! they backfire (flash red) when you take your finger of the throttle, and they are metal with blued heat markings. The indicators also flash when the car is stationary and the brake lights come on when you slow to a stop. I have installed the Kyosho No. MZW223 lighting rig, its about £45 on ebay. You will need a very good dremel tool to hollow out the solid plasitc pop-up headlights, thats the hard bit, then drill a further 8 small holes !. Don't chuck your MR-01's get the Strat body and get the lights in !

Well, its taken some time and effort, but I have finally finished the paint job. Humbrol Acrylics are great for the shell.

Hi The LED lighting kits are about £5.00 on ebay. Just search for LED RC lighting kits and choose one to suit your needs. I went for a 6, 5mm led's (4 white 2 red), they run off a standard 9v square battery, but I added a battery holder with integrel switch from 'Maplins' and stuck it under the driver next to the body of the car. There is just enough room for it above the radio box on the chassis. This means that the lighting rig is attached to the body shell and fully separate from the car which is usefull.

Thanks for your comments. I didn't do any rubbing down or use any clear coats, just the two humbrol acrylic colour sprays, they give a good gloss finish don't they !

Optima pro chassis from ebay, shell from kamtec
KyoshoCope

Hi, I have no idea what the proper colours are, but I used a combo of Tamiya PS Spray paints and Tamiya PC paint. This Pro was done with PS-7 transparent orange backed with PS-12 silver. This gives a great metallic orange effect. The panels are black with gold pin stripping. The optima was PC-1 white, PC-5 Black, PC-3 Blue and a mix of PC-2 and PC-6 yellow to make the orange panels.

My very first rc car bought in 1985 !

Thanks, this is one of the harder paint jobs, its just a case of using lots of masking tape and planning the order of paint application. This shell is not perfect, but it was the best I could do.

Optima pro chassis from ebay, shell from kamtec

This is a different car. The pro has quite a different radio, battery and suspension set up. I have had the aluminium chassis anodised gold if you look carefully. Thanks for your comments.

Good luck with the shell, if I had another go at it, I would use Kyosho Microline tape on the inside as masking tape to get the black lines cleaner. I used Tamiya tape, and it isn't that flexable.

This was from ebay and didn't need a thing doing to it.
KyoshoCope

Thanks, I have now fitted the proper box art pin type tyres to this car (OT-66 rear and narrower versions on fronts) so I need to update the photos. This car even has its original shell, but the decals are repro. I really like the look of this one, can't understand why the body was unpopular when it came out.

Kyosho raider

Thanks for your comments guys. I like the Raider, its very plastic, but the more critical components are good quality plastic. The car is very light and with a 12T motor and ESC is really moves !

Kyosho turbo optima mid special
KyoshoCope

Hi, thanks for your comments, you have a Turbo Optima Mid Special like this one, and your shock towers are original FRP stock for the car, mine are alunium as I used to run this car, but I do have the FRP originals somewhere. Get yourself a new body kit from Marwan on this site, and get it back to box art, its worth the investment as these cars are rare !

Kyosho turbo optima
KyoshoCope

Cheers guys, really nice comments, i took my time over this one, another marwan repro shell and decals, it was in truth a normal optima, bought off ebay way back, but I have collected all the parts to make it a 8.4v Turbo Optima. Just need a NIB 8.4v vintage kyosho battery pack to finish it off. I have a NIB vintage Tamiya 8.4v battery to trade, if anyone wants to do a straight swap of batteries !?

Cheers, already built a jump in the garden ! Had to tighten the slipper clutch, but so far so good. I think I'll get a brushless motor for it, although the 17T brushed motor I have installed makes it shift.
