thanks, pity I don't live near any dirt, but still it runs well on the road.

haven't had trouble with the transmission yet, but I pretty much expected that I'd upgrade it as things broke.

Celica burning down the track

I must admit I did this before I heard about the competition. I appreciate the early models a lot more now, but I'd like to try this again on a newer model

It ended up this way as I was lazy as a kid and once I got the car, couldn't work fast enough to get it build and running. I'm now tempted to give it a new coat of paint, although I'll probably leave the rims alone

Marui galaxy - my first rc car

I've read somewhere, maybe even on the forums here, that if you pad underneath the motor you can reduce the gear wear, as it reduces the play in the top gear.

Rocket power!!!
superchampjohn
I'd also recommend changing the tires to something more solid, as its rolling resistance you want to overcome, and off-road tires tend not to be good for that. The first time I tried, we used small rocket engines on a Marui Galaxy, but the result was pretty pathetic, which is why the second time I tried I use a Celica LB Turbo, very light and rolling resistance was very low. The results were impressive, albeit ultimately damaging for the car.
We did have two other issues, one was we used two engines side by side in series, so we didn't account for differential thrust (rocket engines won't fire the same, makes it very hard to control), and secondly, the tires at the front didn't have enough grip to give us any steering, and when we fixed that, we had too much steering. This caused the final destruction of the body and steering area, as it launched and started to veer, and when I tried to correct, when straight into the gutter, pieces of the car ended up as far as 15-20 metres away.

Yokomo drift car top secret s15 silva
SpZero
given that one side of the car appears to have the stickers reversed could mean the body isn't Tamiya. Also cheap car I bought on ebay turned out to be a chinese copy of a tamiya, the company was (HBX). It took me a while to find any info on them. The name was on the car underneath the bumper, and is a pretty good copy, and still holding up to abuse from my kids. If it is a tamiya, it should have the name stamped on the chassis somewhere.

This is more the 1/18th scale as well, and I think cost around $79 at the time. It even came with a high/low gear switch on the back.

nice air shots. Whereabouts in Brisbane is that park? I live in Sunnybank, and we don't really have anything like that near us.

thanks for the comments. The Brand is Potex Toys and the scale is 1/12th. Yeah, I was surprised by the level of detail, it even has metal grills front and back, plus I discovered it also has a basic diff.

Original hornet with sand scorcher body and wheels

thanks for all the comments. I can't take too much credit for the paint job though, the body was bought off ebay pre-painted. I will change it a little as up close its a little untidy. ShayD - yes, will fit a rear cage at some stage, I think its lacking without it, so I'll fix that at some stage, and a front bash plate, I intend to make something out of 2 mm aluminium. MAD-BEE, I'll definitely run this at the beach when I can get a chance!

Crash Cramer - the remover I used was made by planet ark and is called orange power, but I'm pretty sure any citrus based cleaner will work. But always test first. I soaked the area with the cleaner and after about 10 minutes used a scapel blade to lift the edges. When I had enough to grip, I pulled the rest of the sticker off. Next I do this I'll video the procedure. The 3M tape I use should be fine for both types of bodies, but I can test and find the product name when I'm back at work on Monday.

Thanks for the comments everyone. kougercat - that sounded like it was a lot of fun. I must admit I like the older cars a lot more than the newer ones. There are a few I'd still like to collect, but I have enough projects to keep me going for quite awhile.

crash cramer - I bought the cleaner from the local supermarket too, so its just a general household cleaner, and cheap!

Crash Cramer - I see you are in texas, so yeah different products, but citrus based cleaning products should be similar in the Australia, USA or Europe. But always test first! Its the citrus element that is important, as its a weak, oily acid, and tends to attack the glue and not the plastics.
