They are the kit spec tires and wheels. Also found on some other Kyosho kits. VW Baja on the same chassis and I think some scorpions.

I have to say when this first came out I thought it looked very strange, a sort of Avante wana be. But I now feel this is one of the best looking optimas. Too ahead of its time in terms of styling but it has certainly aged well.
