I took the Slash 4x4 to a local RC racetrack last bank holiday monday where I though it would be a good idea to see how the car handles on a proper race track with the stock setup, needless to say it was loads of fun but there was vast room for improvements all round. After a lot of research on the internet I have found a good setup for racing & have spent the last few weeks acquiring numerous parts to improve the Slash & to replace broken & damaged parts. First off was changes to the suspension, using the stock ultra-shocks, I have replaced these with different springs & changed the shafts to stronger hardened steel, titanium nitride parts due to me bending the stock ones more or less every run. I have had issues with overheating (usually when running the 3S Lipo's) so have installed a cooling fan, heatsink & finned motor plate to counter this. I seem to be breaking the standard A-arms on a regular basis so have changed these for the stronger RPM parts all round. My rear bumper was broken so again I have gone for the stronger RPM version with the added mud-flaps for looks. I lost my gear cover on a run so have replaced this with a clear version & changed the battery holder for an aftermarket alu part. My stock hex adapters were cracked so these have been changed for alu versions also. Front & rear sway bar's added, & stainless steel screws used to replace the worn one's. I have had issue's with small stones getting into the drive shaft area so I have placed the driveshaft in a plastic tube to reduce the chance of this happening. The whole car has been setup via 'Steve Slaydens' racing setup guide that can be found on the Traxxas forum, all I need to do now is to get myself to the track :)

Out of the box, ready to run is fine for bashing & general fun, all I would suggest is a couple of Lipo batteries. On a track however you notice the stock tyres are no good, the truck seems to spin out to much & is hard to correct direction of trravel mid-air. Hopefully everything I have done will improve the truck & everyone says that when set-up properly this vehicle is amazing. The only thing I have yet to install is a center diff & possibly some aftermarket front & rear axels as I have had issues with the stock axels bending after serious impacts (usually with concrete though, so no surprise there). The trucks are extremely robust, but at speeds of 50mph+ everything has a breaking point & this truck takes some serious abuse. I spent the money on the upgrade's because I love this truck, it's my favorite runner & would like to start racing but they are no way essential for having fun with it
