I brought this second hand for cheap back in 1989(my dad's persuasion), me and my dad never got it running properly because of a few unobtainable missing parts. In a box and into the loft it went. The internet has changed all that now, so a few years back I scoured my parents loft and found it. I fully stripped it down and started cleaning it up with a view to restore and run it; hence all the parts now grouped in bags. At that time I'd just bought my first Tamiya, a King Blackfoot. Then unbeknownst to me, Tamiya Addiction had set in and the Kyosho Landjump was destined for neglect; back to its lonely life in a box on a shelf. 12 Tamiyas later and I thought I at least owe it an obligatory    ‚¬ËœBEFORE' post on TC as I do with all my Tamiya cars. So here it is   ‚¬ ¦

It's had a hard life, I suspect at some point its suffered a big front impact as the roll-cage needs a weld at the front. Also, when I first got it, my dad asked a work colleague to make him some parts for it and he did. The 2 plates that hold the petrol tank are now brass, as are the 2 front vertical plates that hold everything together. Am unsure of the engine, last time I turned it over by hand it still had some compression, which is a good sign. Not sure of what's missing exactly but I know of a 2 things for definite; muffler and clutch. Other than that I think its pretty complete and all in good order.

It will eventually get all the love it deserves, just like my Tamiyas. It may even get more as there's something about this car I love, I can't quite put my finger on it. Once I've done the obligatory    ‚¬ËœAFTER' TC post, hopefully I can drive it a little and it can adorn my shelf in a state of pride that it truly deserves. One day   ‚¬ ¦

Cheers

Well should be able to find a good clutch. The ones from this day didnt last very long. But they have clutch's now that take a lickin and keeps on tickin.

@SRB Bloke; I havent a clue about one called Yankee, though i'm sure theres something somewhere on the internet if there is such one, I'll have a search. I could never let this one go as its rare and I'm very attached to it. @slimmy; Yes it'll need a heavy-duty clutch as this thing wheighs quite a bit once built, its nearly all metal.

Nice car I have restored 4 of these, run a 2 shoe clutch, if your engine never had after run oil in it it will be toast.

Wow great story behind this car
I think you must drive it at least one time
I did the same with my 1979 Serpent MKIII.
Have fun ,
Cheers Alex

@Biscuit; As far as I know the previous owner did oil the engine before storage. You can still turn it over by hand and it still makes compression hiss. Its just dirty and the old oil has congealed a bit. Wether it'll ever run again is anybodies guess. I do wonder how much it'd cost to get it reconditioned or just get a newish engine to fit and use.
