GB03 HOTSHOT :: Candy edition
This is my GB03 Tamtech Gear Hotshot. Out of the box, it's already a great looking model, but as with the other Tamtech series, there are the usual items that need upgrading, and some others. The shocks were replaced with Yeah Racing units, and motor was replaced with a brushless unit from Dynamite (Fuze 7000kv) Personally I feel Tamiya really cheaped out on this one. The universal shafts are all plastic where the GB01 units actually had some decent metal bits used. I swapped out for GB01 units. Main 4wd shaft is also plastic, I replaced this with an alu one. MUCH of the front end out of the box is so loose and wishy washy it was almost disgusting. I replaced all the crap plastic ball joints with metal units, used some spare turnbuckles I had lying around and retro-fitted a 3racing steering servo saver. Part of the rack required dremeling down so that the ball joint on the rack would be able to clear the alu 4wd shaft on full left turn. (you can see a pic of this) These mods removed a LOT of slop and made the steering rather precise and nimble. All the anodized bits were blue, I couldn't have that on a red car so I stripped the anodizing and was left with the lovely silver. And with all that cool tamiya tech beneath the hood, I couldn't stand to cover it so I painted the body with a few coats of a candy red. Still transparent to see the goodies! All in all, a cool car and lots of fun to drive.

I really like your Hotshot. The transparent body is a nice touch.
How did you remove the blue from the alu parts?

That's pretty cool! Nice mods and advice for GB03 users, and a stunning looking car (The translucent red is awesome!)

IMHO this looks better than the 1/10. Off to ebay to search for one

Looks real good! I picked one up off the bay complete with tons of aluminum and hop-ups for dirt cheap, just need to give it a once-over.

Over-all - with the metalizing mechanism and painting scheme - this Shot looks like a mysterious machine. I wish there would be metal parts for the front suspension system!

I like your servo upgrades on some of your cars. I happen to hate the one in my GB01. Any advise? Message me if you have a moment. Thanks!
Nice looking Hotshot, just wondering which model Yeah Racing red shocks did you use?
bad andy
honestly I don't recall about the shocks, it was so long ago. Sorry.
