I have those exact brochures on my book shelf in my old bedroom at my mothers. £114 for the kit only if you bring that price up to date I say they where damn expensive back then.

SWEET!!

And credit in shops like that is still usually 29.9% Cool stuff though, odd how old adverts are more interesting than new ones.

thanks for the feedback..hello wayne, any idea what you would be looking at in todays money for the hilux setup ????

Wow, these 10 pages bring back some memories......hours spent in the Holborn and Kingston branches. Whatever the deal available could never save enough pocket money... RC was comparably much more expensive back in the late 70's early 80's.

Brilliant info...thanks for uploading these.

Wow! Wish I could get them for that now...

Wow you just cant belive the price on these back then so cheap now but as a kid way back then that was alot of money ... i rember my mom worked at beatties when i was a kid as much as i could i used to get the bus to my moms work and almost spend all day there in the toy area witch is where my mom worked

I found a page that shows you prices adjusted for inflation. I guessed this was from '83 which makes it around £300 in today's money. Link to page : [Click here]

Very cool! Great post. Oh, wayne you keep a spare room at your mama's? Is that for when the wife throws you out for buying another SRB chassis?

I too used to shuffle about Sheffield with my 'mardy' face on until we got to Beatties. My Sand Rover deal came from there. Can you remember the 2 railways that ran round the ceiling of the shop? Thats what I used to watch when the 'none' action bits came on the TV on the wall behind the counter. Watching those Tamiya videos was the highlight of a shopping day in Sheffield.

R8 Simon I reckon the deal at £240 ish would equate to around £600 to £700 in todays money. A high lift with radio and batteries would be much cheaper than that.

thanks for the replys everyone, yeah wayne, they were expensive, now you've explained, cheers dave for the link..interesting...my scorcher in 79 was £100 from marcways in attercliffe and my dad was'nt draggin' that for a weeks work, thats why the shop had a payment plan, for parents in that situation.hello Gizv8,yes i remember the railway..also me moaning 'go on mam..go on mam..why not '!!!any idea of the name of the modelshop on the gallery, near the castle market ? i can still visualize the srb bodysets stacked up at a tenner a pop..happy days
GizV8
There was a large toy shop down towards the Moor that was called Redgates. I can't remember one near Castle market though.

I used to get my spares off the gallery. They where much better with after care there. My mate got his kyosho scorpion which he used to race against my ranger. Have to say it was quicker so I'd beat him up Lol. Not that I'm Mardy!!!!! Also I got my first mardave marauder from the model shop on shalesmoor simply named Hobbies Redgates used to have tamiyas downstairs also At least as kids getting drag around town we had something to look forward to now its only computer game shops....
SCORCHER KID
i remember Redgates on furnival gate, thats the chuffin' shop what started my plastic model craze !..soon as beatties opened ,that was it !!i think the bloke who had the shop near the market ,raced srb's ,he had quite a bit of hop-up stuff for sale....
SCORCHER KID
Never went into the shop in shalesmoor..only past ,seemed to sell alot of stuff other than tamiya..only bought tamiya,'proper stuck in the mud me' am still blink'ed ,nowts changed as it
jeffy
Well the average weekly wage back in 1980 was £115 a week so £240 for the hilux would have been 2 weeks wages!!!!! +++ Gary lucky you being younger than me and Simon. I think the shop on the Gallery shut in 84 and yes he did race the srb's
jeffy
The one on shalesmoor was hard core modeling. Planes, boats, helis and steam engines. Plus nitro cars. Was always full of beardy wierdies
SCORCHER KID
'Hardcore modeling' ...f'nar..f'nar...still laughin' at that one wayne..tee hee
...........sorry.......
