i too was dragged around sheffield town centre on a saturday afternoon, into all the boring shops with my 'mardy' face on, until the last shop 'BEATTIES'..how my face altered ,nice prices..If only ?.hindsights a great thing....all comments welcome ..ENJOY..

I have those exact brochures on my book shelf in my old bedroom at my mothers. £114 for the kit only if you bring that price up to date I say they where damn expensive back then.

And credit in shops like that is still usually 29.9% Cool stuff though, odd how old adverts are more interesting than new ones.

Wow, these 10 pages bring back some memories......hours spent in the Holborn and Kingston branches. Whatever the deal available could never save enough pocket money... RC was comparably much more expensive back in the late 70's early 80's.

I found a page that shows you prices adjusted for inflation. I guessed this was from '83 which makes it around £300 in today's money. Link to page : [Click here]

Very cool! Great post. Oh, wayne you keep a spare room at your mama's? Is that for when the wife throws you out for buying another SRB chassis?

I too used to shuffle about Sheffield with my 'mardy' face on until we got to Beatties. My Sand Rover deal came from there. Can you remember the 2 railways that ran round the ceiling of the shop? Thats what I used to watch when the 'none' action bits came on the TV on the wall behind the counter. Watching those Tamiya videos was the highlight of a shopping day in Sheffield.

R8 Simon I reckon the deal at £240 ish would equate to around £600 to £700 in todays money. A high lift with radio and batteries would be much cheaper than that.

thanks for the replys everyone, yeah wayne, they were expensive, now you've explained, cheers dave for the link..interesting...my scorcher in 79 was £100 from marcways in attercliffe and my dad was'nt draggin' that for a weeks work, thats why the shop had a payment plan, for parents in that situation.hello Gizv8,yes i remember the railway..also me moaning 'go on mam..go on mam..why not '!!!any idea of the name of the modelshop on the gallery, near the castle market ? i can still visualize the srb bodysets stacked up at a tenner a pop..happy days

There was a large toy shop down towards the Moor that was called Redgates. I can't remember one near Castle market though.

I used to get my spares off the gallery. They where much better with after care there. My mate got his kyosho scorpion which he used to race against my ranger. Have to say it was quicker so I'd beat him up Lol. Not that I'm Mardy!!!!! Also I got my first mardave marauder from the model shop on shalesmoor simply named Hobbies Redgates used to have tamiyas downstairs also At least as kids getting drag around town we had something to look forward to now its only computer game shops....

Well the average weekly wage back in 1980 was £115 a week so £240 for the hilux would have been 2 weeks wages!!!!! +++ Gary lucky you being younger than me and Simon. I think the shop on the Gallery shut in 84 and yes he did race the srb's

The one on shalesmoor was hard core modeling. Planes, boats, helis and steam engines. Plus nitro cars. Was always full of beardy wierdies
