18 Years the world waited... And it paid off!
So there it is... The TRF201... After 18 years of waiting from many Tamiya fans it's finally there! The latest model of the TRF Line will (and already has) put an end to the tale that Tamiya never had a production car to seriously compete in the 2WD Buggy Championships (although I still think the Dyna Storm did come quite close).
I've really enjoyed the build of this car. It's my first official TRF car, the first car I'm working on with these 'new' reinforced plastics, and I have to say Tamiya did something impressive with this one! Very small gearbox (See last picture in comparison with the Dyna Storm!), very smooth diff, the right materials in the right places, close to zero tolerances make for a very tight and smooth suspension and steering set... Really cool!
I decided to build it completely stock apart from two things. The first is that I didn't use the blue wheel nuts, but regular silver ones. The second is that I cut the front tips of the wing differently than what the manual tells you to (simply because this looks better). I may also make a different construction for retaining a battery, as I don't like the 'screw' system and the cheap/boring looking battery plate (Carbon and aluminum battery posts from a TA05-ish car perhaps?)
PS: Another pretty cool feature... With minor modification, a Dyna Storm body should fit right on the car, making it look somewhat more vintage ;)
PS2: This car has been sold.
It is definetely a good looking car...
Certainly a lot better than the Losi's and RC10's!
The anodizing also looks better than I expected...
Certainly with the blue reflection of the sky!
Sitting shiny in the sun...
Minor edits to the wing and it looks much better!
That front shock tower looks really cool!
This is what the competition will see (sort of)...
The Old and the New... They look good Together! :)

Never got in to these, since I stopped racing in late 80's. But this certainly has the right bits to put a few throphies on your shelf...

Mmmmh, very nice! I would love one of these, but can't quite justify it as I'm more of a builder than a driver...

Fantastic piece of engineering this! I enjoyed my build too and I have raced it twice now at TORCH and I must say it handles superb! I can't wait to race it again. I race every Sunday. See my showroom for action pics........
You just have to drive this car....! Are you going to paint it to look like a Dyna Storm?

Thanks for the comments
@Dante77: It's something I couldn't completely justify if it wasn't a 2WD Buggy
Although I think building a Dyna Storm is even better than building the TRF201... @Super Gripper: This one's for the shelf and will not be painted, although I am seriously considering to buy a second one and run that... It would likely mean a forced sale of my Dyna Storm runner and many parts though...
It really requires some time to make a decision on that!
