G'day guys
I had already posted this but somehow deleted it whilst trying to add more pics, so here it is again. I bought this from the original owner, came with box, manual, Technigold & lots of new spares. I immediately bought a new body & repro decals, new tyres, the rest was in really good condition. I really wanted to do something different than Boxart as there seemed to be so may done this way, so, I painted the body with pearlescent clear, than black, then white, so in the sunlight the black is metallic, I painted the front & rear shock towers black, threw out the yellow shocks & replaced them with yeahracing chrome items. I also had the drivers roll cage, airdam & exhausts chrome plated , then I sprayed them with Tamiya gloss to give that alloy look. What was it with Tamiya & yellow plastic? I also painted the engine block silver for some detail as well. New bumper has been cut down as I think it looks better like that. I think the rack & pinion steering is brilliant! It won't be to everyones liking, but I'm wrapped with it! It will be my 4WD vintage racer, a lipo should get that Technigold going! SO I got to have my first drive today, even though this will be my vintage 4WD racer, it was a beautiful winter day so Dom & I took it to the beach for a shake down.
This thing flies!!!!!!!!! The handling is awesome, it seems to stick to the ground very nidely, I can't wait to get it on the track.
enjoy the pics

Nicely done, Always thought the shape deserved something a bit classier than the box art colours.

Looks amazing! Never looked twice at this car back in the days because I thought it looked far to 'toyish' with the moondiscs and overall plastic looks. The chrome details and shocks makes all the difference! Perhaps go for some chromed rims from loaded?

Goddamn it, someone has beaten me to it!....Was gonna do something very similar to mine so will have to change my plan a little bit. Fantastic effort though mate, you have confirmed that the Bigwig has immense potential if it is modded tastefully.

Now that is what the Big Wig should have looked like. You seem to have 'Chip Foosed' this one nice car into a GREAT car. I wonder what you did to the wheel discs to just bring out the letters so muted. I also think this is begging for some window nets and possibly another number(or decal) on the white field, perhaps a pinstripe to bring out that curve. The bumper is brilliant and the stance is excellent. I haven't liked BigWigs too much in the past, but I think that is because of the yellow shocks, those new units are perfect.

for the wheel lettering, I oainted the wheels in Tamiya white, then did the lettering with a black felt tip pen so when I then sprayed the wheels with Tamiya Gloss it fades the black pen.
I did put window netting in it but took it off as it hid the driver too much.

That is way too sweet. Probably the nicest Bigwig I've seen. Nice action shots too.

Absolutely brilliant restoration, and not just a restoration you've truly brought the Big Wig into the 21st century with your vision.

I have to agree with you, what were Tamiya thinking with all that yellow plastic. It's a sure way of making a great car age unnecessarily.

Great job, congrats on the pictures too they look like you had some great fun on the beach (is there a vid to go with the pics?).

I'm gonna be brutally honest now.... i never really liked the Bigwig, it looked like a fisher price toy somehow... BUT!!! this looks awesome, goes to show its not the car its the box art colours that let it down, now i can see how pretty that car really is. top job mate and i like your style!!!
