My first metal buggy restoration
My first metal buggy ! I had to settle for a SC first cos of funds limitation..
Bagged this Super Champ off ebay. It's real beat , but nothing seriously broken. The original paint job is pretty 'unpretty'. I spent a few weeks stripping 3 layers of paint of the body before I see the underlying blue plastic !!... There was a lot of gunk on the gearbox , drive train etc, which had to be dissolved by solvent... I got around repainting the driver 'bob'. So here he is,... well shaven ... and a nice new helmet...
The body is cracked at the front which was already patched with some sort of epoxy from the previous owner. I added my own to make the body smooth.
One pin rear (that supports the rear arm) was worn out, I got my local metal machinist to machine a brand new stainless steel one... it beats hunting this small pin down from Ebay...
Just added a base coat of white to smoothen out the body on the whole. I am tempted to make the final color yellow, and without the original decals... but with period racing parts brand decals eg STP etc...
Got around finsihing this buggy, I painted it with Tamiya Coral Blue . Added some aftermarket decals. Finished off with some Gunze lacquer (Super Clear) ....That's it ... I love this buggy!! May 2004 Update :- Finally got the correct Super Champ rear tires and original silver nuts for all the tires. Resto complete!!
