This project has taken 18 solid months of scouring the world for every single option house part for the classic Kyosho Optima. This is car is 'full option house' modified in every way for the chain drive Optima. The only mod not fitted is the belt conversion - simply because in my mind - it isn't the real Optima if it doesnt have the chain drive...... ;)

The hardest decision I am trying to make is whether or not to put on a Javelin body set - or an Optima lexan body set on it. Then - should I paint the lexan body? - or do a 1/2 clear and half painted job? Sort of like a cut away...ohhhh dear - decisions decisions.

That is one awesome buggy. Damn expensive too! I've always liked the Javelin body, but this wouldn't be a true Optima without the original Optima body. Perhaps you can track down both body set...

That is just fantastic Darryn. I'm part way through my first Optima restore and it' stuff like this that spurs me on...! Well done...! Regards the body, how about using 'clear' colours so you can see through, but it's correctly coloured. You could always then back it with white or a starmist silver if you didn't like it and it'd look lovely.

I just read your review of this car in R/C car. I didn't read it all the way at first and then I read the whole mag while, ummm, lets just say I was sitting for a while , anyways, this car is wicked and the photo's in the mag don't do it justice. I'd say do a half paint half clear right down the middle. I cannot wait to see what shell you pick. No matter which one, make the gold shine forth!!!

Darryn, How about a chrome plated Javilin body set with a gold lacque to match the rest of the chassis - bling bling.

That could be cool. I have actually trialed it with the orange Javelin roll cage - and I have to agree with Mirimar, in that the gold and orange look sensational together.....I am also thinking about fitting the belt drive conversion and ball diffs now - so it can be the most absolute maximum option house possible.......still not sure though - as I like the idea of keeping a chain drive car chain drive...hmmmmmmmmmm

B-e-autiful. I'm part way through my version - not as bling. These cars are the tops.

Leave the chassis without a body. they did make a gold chassis optima that sold without a body.

Actually, Kyosho only ever released a gold 'celebration chassis set' (chassis and other small parts only) and the Gold optima 'celebration kit'. They never released a complete kit without a body.
