I know this is not my typical thing to do a Box art, or near box anyway. For the last few months I have been slowly working on this second Sand Scorcher for my collection and I decided to go the opposite direction of my faded orange Apocalypse bug and do a shiny pimped box art look, this took a lot less time than the ugly one but was still time consuming, challenging and fun. I did some inner wheel arches and improved them from my previous bug, a few other small details were changed as well but nothing drastic since I want this to be a photogenic car for action shots and having the enclosed arches helps a lot so light won't shine through and ruin the scale look of the car. I used on of Scollins interiors I had stashed away for a project like this. So anyway hope you get a kick out of this, and now after so many hours of work I will go run this bad boy and try for some cool pictures in the weeks to come if some of our snow melts anyway ;)

No hell didn't freeze but I did box art 1 man I hated masking this lol! 1 Might do more details here yet 1 poser nose top Lots of styrene work side not fancy but good enough for pictures some extra details

Nice, Seth - we're proud of you. If you are going to do anything in box art, this would be it. Nice extra body work too. It adds a lot to help with scale appearance.

Love it! You did a great box art, complete with vintage stickers. I too have a scollins interior stashed for a future Scorcher project. They are nice to have. I'm sure you'll start doing more details here and there, starting with the rear vents below the window. I think your bearded driver looks cool too. Cheers!

Thanks guys, the problem is the arches are made to fit rather than made seperately so it is hard to make them seperate from a body. Yeah the vent lines are coming my sharpie went dead before I got to them lol!

had i not been following this build on tamiya cralwers, i might have been as shocked as jeremy was . since this body has the flat fenders, the inner wells really hide the inner workings and look great too. i cant wait to see the pics with this and the old beater.

Great job! Can't wait to see it in action! One thing I keep seeing lately is people painting the rear light lenses with the indicators in the middle section. Does the manual say so? The indicators were always on top on these rear lights. Just wondering.

As much as i like your custom-builds, and weatering, it´s also nice to see you do something 'typical', like this one.. Really nice and clean build, and the interior and the inner arches really sets it off nicely too..
Can´t wait to see the action shots of this one.

Cheers..

Thanks fellers, yes rc4wd bumpers, yes I simply painted the tailights as in the manual, the action shots could take awhile we have to much snow and more is supposed to be on way which makes getting shots a trick, but I'll try to get it to do something even if I have to use snow chains lol!

gozone

19-Nov-2010

LOL, snow chains.. Well, you COULD re-name the car from 'Sand Scorcher' to 'Snow Scorcher'.. There you go, any name-related excuse NOT to run it now is eliminated.

Cheers..

Beautiful car. You've inspired me to get another Scorcher....so I can try my hand at inner wheel arches. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Awesome Scorcher!

I just have to comment on the rear lenses. I painted mine exactly the same. Red-top, orange-middle, white-bottom. I believe that's what it said in the manual? I got the same comment of 'you painted your lights wrong'... Bit confused on this one, not that it matters. Looks awesome anyway!

Wyoming

9-Dec-2010

yeah it was in the manual. I'm guessing VW may have had some variation in foreign markets or something which may be why Tamiya shows it this way. but since I don't drive a VW it doesn't bug me since the average person won't notice

delux

9-Dec-2010

Millions do it the same. It's actually a tamiya cock up. That shape tail-light doesn't have a reverse light, so they are all red as in the US or orange and red for the rest of the world...
