This is my scorcher project. I was with my girlfriend at her grandmother's 80th birthday about 2 years ago in country NSW and got talking to a few uncles (nice guys). The conversation came round to RC stuff at some point (it usually does if i'm there) turns out they were both aircraft enthusiasts but had had cars when younger and one was definitely a beetle of some sort. One turned to the other and said you know i think the old cars may be in the roof of the farm shed still (the twitching began). They offered to try to find them when the party headed back to the farm for more serious drinking. Eventually a very moldy box was hauled out of a shed roof and in it was this scorcher and a fox (yet to be uploaded) in obviously damp affected condition but quite complete (missing the usual small bits from use, mirrors, door handles, indicators). The fox was given over as a freebie and a good price was agreed to for the scorcher as long as i promised to restore it (and send photos) and not strip it for sale as he was very fond of it, no prob with me! At this stage it has been pulled down to its socks and jocks (done at Christmas last year while having a solo down day between visits) and i got a bit daunted by the work required. I'm now looking for a local media blasting place to give it a run over on the cast bits before reassembly. So if there are any Australian newcastle/central coast guys out there who have some one they use i'd love to hear from you. I'll update as i progress as it's my aim to really have a proper go at this one in the next few months.

grubby and corroded but strong potential hmmm crunchy! almost bits

Dude! Fantastic story, crap timing. If you had found this a couple of years ago, before the re-re you'd be a TC legend, now you're just really lucky . By the looks of its pretty complete, maybe she just need some soap, water and elbow grease?

Honestly I like it in it's fossilized state in the first pic. Great story. Cheers.

Excellent find! The dirtier the better to restore them with. I would have got the twitching action as well LOL, plus a few girly giggles.

nice find, an original in restorable condition is still a good find despite the re-re scorcher - looking forward to the resto pics

A great story , if you need advice on restoring alloy back to its former glory then you need to ask simon 'scorcher kid' for some words of wisdom. there is no-one better to take advice from IMHO, take a look in his showroom for some tips.

I had to laugh at wyoming's comment sorry mate i'm afraid cleaning is it's destiny! @Sb Aust to be honest when we stopped at a hotel on the way home i did bring the moldy box in with us (much to my girl friends disgust) sit this on the table and walk round it from time to time smiling and laughing!
