The first
This is the genesis of modern Tamiya buggy pleasure. Tamiya obviously had the Yokomo B Max as a guide but added their own Tamiya style along with their famous TRF quality which is just awesome.
I first wanted to build this model but as i saw in what good condition the box was i am now not totally sure what to do. I took off the shrinwrap just to check if there´s no toaster inside because it made a weird noise when shaking the box. Gladly everything is there (although i didn´t open the parts bags) and the noise when shaking remained to be the Chassis plate which had been put on top of the body instead of putting it on bottom at first. Still have a TRF502X which i have to put the shrinwrap off to look inside but can´t bring myself to do it.
I felt the need to add the first 501X to my collection because i had so much fun with the 501X based cars from Tamiya this year i wanted to have the origin of fun. Comments welcome.

BUILD IT Its a fantastic car

No wonder Tamiya boxes are shrinking - there's a lot of space in that box, hence the rattling. As you've already taken the shrinkwrapping off, you may as well build it. Then get a nice display cabinet and put this alongside a 501 Worlds, 511 and a 502!!!! Would look awesome.

Sweet ride Johanes! If you build it and then thing about driving it on anything but carpet, then Fremi's diffcover is a must. I still need more time to race my 501x, fantastic car.

btw regarding the box size, when assembled the whole machine still fits inside, good for storage. there is also a nift handle, perfect for transportation.

Hey Henrik, nice tip that the built car fits in. I already know about Fredriks diff covers, i already have ordered some for my 511 in case i will run it, might do so for the 501X if i decide to build it. Think i can´t bring myself to build it, for now i can resist. Who knows, winters can be long here in Austria
@WW-nut: nice thoughts building all cars and displaying them altogether. I would have to buy a 501WE to finish that thought...

btw, I think that the rear wing needs to come off actually! but then it fits like a glove I'm saving for a 'big pulley' conversion so it can cope better with brushless systems. also gonna add some ceramic or tungsten balls for the diffs when I'm at it. oh, 'd if you decide to build it, for the love of god lube all screws or even better get a 3 racing titanium screw set. The standard screws sieze easy and are soft as butter, so the heads strips real easy!

Thanks for your nice tips, Henrik. I have built some TRFs so far and noticed the problem with the screws too but the most important thing is to have nice tools. Tamiya and Hudy make the best in my opinion.
