'The Tamiya TMT-1: Tamiya's first Medium Sized Monster Truck. 1/12th scale like the Midnight Pumpkin and Lunchbox, using a TLT-1 chassis with locked center differential, Wild Dagger wheels, Wild Willy tires, extended wheelbase to match the HPI Wheely King body with a 'Caterpillar' sponsored finish. With 4Wheel Drive, 4Wheel Steering and a 12T brushless system, it's literally a beast.'

That's what Tamiya would write. I would add that the 12T motor is perhaps a bit overkill and needs some downtuning. Also that the logos are painted, not decals, and whereas the finish is very rough, I like the overall result :) Comments welcome, more information and better quality pictures coming soon...

What happened!! Did you do this paintjob after a wild night on the town??

Nope - Unfortunately not. Things went wrong when I wanted to give the shell a final clean before spraying (and after the masking) and didn't see my vinyl masking was coming off slightly. I didn't want to re-make the masking, so repaired what I could and started spraying. Then after that I was too impatient with the second colour, and yellow tended to mix with the black (slightly visible at the bonnet). The white went OK, but I suppose not much more could've gone wrong anyway I never was any good at painting bodies, so I guess I will take even more time and some Parma FaskMask... I got a funny comment by email too: 'Why is the paint finish so incredibly rough and ugly? Kindergarden fingerpaints applied by a 3 year old braindead kid?' It will be run anyway, and from a distance it's not really visible... For me the kindergarden fingerpaint job is sufficient, and at least I won't fear damaging the bodyshell

This looks great, don`t worry too much about the mistakes,i have had more than a few mistakes myself, even after 25+ years of doing them you could try to touch it up from the outside,if you carefully go round with the white using a brush or even mask it,i`m sure it will look a bit better.Have you got light decals? if not,i would just pick them out in silver humbrol, then over paint the rears with Tamiya clear colours to represent the lenses.
I like it anyway

Thanks Twisty I was planning to touch up the outside yeah, or to make the exterior rougher, scratchy and damaged (today was a start with the driving and jumping in the snow) - I do have decals for the lights and grill, but I don't like the shape of the lights, so I think I'll either keep it like this, add the decals from HPI with some slight mods, or to leave them off altogether... What do you think would look best? (As I don't have a clue yet what would be the best choice).
