Updated paint job
I got bored with the previous paint job and decided to strip it back and have another go. Halfway through stripping off the old paint i saw a tv program where someone used fish net stockings to make a snake skin effect on a motor cycle fuel tank. I didnt want to do snake skin but i wanted to try it out as an easy way of getting quite a complex pattern without having to do endless masking. The paint i used was Halfords car paint built up in lots of thin layers and faded out in certain areas. Here are the results.

Great looking Scorcher. Great idea with the fish net, I like that effect.

Thats a nice effect. Very novel. Did you stretch the material over the shell, with it actually on the shell, or slightly off?

WOW!!!! A great technique never before seen on a Scorcher! That is awesome. Reptile looking effect with excellent fades! This is very unique!

Why did you have to make it look this good? It makes me jealous and sad that my painting qualities aren't even a 10th of this...

Thanks everyone. I wasnt too sure how it would come out or how easy it would be. To answer some of the questions, the stockings were actually against the shell everywhere i painted. in places i had to use tape to hold it down because things like the wheel arches pulled them away from the body a bit. I think it took 3 - 4 coats and the difficult bit was being patient enough not to move things round between coats to see how it looked.

This is great! Fantastic paint job and detailing-it all works! FYI-You can also use different types of nylon mesh from a fabric store-like netting, sport jersey material, etc. some have round openings, some square, etc...
