Never run original Rough Rider.
This is my latest SRB ... it's an original MkII Rough Rider that has come to me in 'never-run' condition. The chassis is almost perfect, the only problem is the rear cage has broken where it meets the gear box on one side. No radio gear has ever been fitted, the radio box shows no discolouration and is only missing the rubber switch cover. The speed control is there and looks brand new. The shell is missing a KC light and has damage to the nose ... I've super-glued the damage/split temporarily, but it should allow an invisible fix, if/when I restore the body. The original paint job looks to have been done by a novice, so I should strip it really, only the paint and decals have remained so vibrant that I'm tempted to leave it ... not sure what to do. Anyways, I'm thrilled to have this in my collection, it was weird seeing it first time out the box ... Thirty years old but looks like it was built yesterday ... another SRB comes home to TamiyaClub!

Thats a great find, just a little resto and it will be spot on. But how could someone have built this back in the day and not run it..

@SRB Bloke: I reckon more people bought these things as static models than you might think ... Or maybe bought the kit and then never got around to buying the radio and batteries etc ... It puzzled me as a kid that the box said 'suitable' for radio control ...
@ MAD-BEE: Yup! I was pretty pleased about it! heh heh heh ... T'was a nice guy I bought it off too ...

Wow, nice find! I'd leave as is. But if you feel the need to respray, you can carefully peel the original decals off using a heat gun and reapply them the same way. I did that with my Rogh Rider and it worked great! The bumper will be as new after a bath in Hydrogen peroxide in sunlight.

Thanks for the comments everyone. @ Dante77 That's a good tip concerning the bumper. I was wondering about that. I'll leave the paint for now, too many projects on the go already ... I will strip her down and put everything thru the sonic bath tho ...
