I finished the chassis today, and had a first (careful) run in my living room, on my gravel hound's tyres. I used a Tamiya 302 ESC, Hitec servo and BZ motor. I chose the BZ because it should have a little more torque & RPM than the stock one. Now I just need to wait till saturday to get some paint for the box art finish.

Finally my very own Avante!

Very Nice! Not having owned one of these before, can you elaborate on what you really think of it as a kit/car as I'm considering getting one at some time. Thank You and enjoy!

Thanks for the comments guys. My thoughts on the kit - having never built an avante: You can clearly see it's an old design, a lot less plastic is used than the new kits. In some cases that's a plus, in some it's not. The suspension is hard to get just right: if you get the distance between the ball ends just right, you need to twist it to get the orientation right, and your distance is wrong again. Add the fact that you need plates in between for the stabi's, it's challenging. After the build I had mixed feelings: 'is this it?' vs 'it was a fun build'. When I ran it, those feelings changed to simply 'yeeeeeehaaaa!'. I'd buy it again, just for the sentiment of getting 'the kit I couldn't afford 23 years ago'. Need to grab my guidebooks and catalogues of that time to drool over it some more The improvements make a lot of sense, I can imagine the original being fragile at those points.

This looks great, and I bet it was good to build (hear what you say about the distancing of the ballends). I personally love metal parts, if for no other reason than they look better, and are stronger than plastic. But this looks to be a great combination of the two, and looks like it can take a good thrashing.

Thank you killerkip, that information was very helpfull. Originally, the prices of these steered me in the opposite direction, however, I might now have come full circle Enjoy it Mate, it looks a Blast!
