Sold this back in 2009. Always been into Mini's since 1994. Had 9 to date. This was my favourite. Give up with it due to always finding a new bubble of rust! I'm sure all Mini's were dipped in the sea before painting!!!!!!

That is quite cool. Wish I had one. Too bad they all turn to rust!

For a moment, I thought it was TAMIYA... Very nice! Never seen the red top, but it's different!

Z cars hyabusa engined kit car next?

Also why not make a tamiya version of this one. The m chassis goes like stink! Get a decent motor in there and wahey! Will send you some links for cheap mini bits! :-0

Gotta love the Min. British Leyland built rust free Minis. In other words they didn't charge extra for the in-built rust

Nice one mate. I've got a cooper in the garage with a couple of bubbles. Mainly in the doors at the bottom where the fish live.
Great fun though!

You couldn't be more right about the salt dip, I've been through 19 Mini's in 28 years, some good, some bad, some weird and wonderful. They drink money even faster than my RC car collections, lol.

A very nice tidy Mini.

Yes it's hard work running a mini every day and keeping it rust free it just doesnt happen sadley. I love the real mini like yours and i gave owned only 3 to date one being an automatic of which i put a 1275 cooper head on lol. When you used the kick down it was like concorde down the runway. This had it's floors like breaking engine mounts every other week even with engine stabilizers fitted lol. Great colour red i think my last one was the same colour, nice rims.

Wow! I added all my pics tonight and the non-tamiya one got the most interest.
Thanks for all your comments. I welded new sills (inner and outer) and door steps to this one, other than that it was original. Never been repainted either. Big problem is the stones thy flick up from the front wheels and chip the paint of the sills. First stage of the rusting. They can last well if fully wax oiled from new and kept clean but even then there will always be somewhere they start to go. This one had a standard 1275 with carb. Great fun to drive.
I was thinking of getting a Mini minus (fibreglass body) but they don't look quite right.
This was the only mini I had that didn't leak oil from the gear change rod, but then it only had 27000 miles on it when I bought it and 34000 when I sold it 5 years later.

Stevepi: your meant to be helping me cut down on buying not tempting me with another project lol.

That´s a lovely Mini.
I´ve once wanted to buy me one aswell, but finding one without any rust was nearly impossible. I did find some though, but they were nearly as expensive as my 2007 Jeep Wrangler.

I know, most cost more than they are worth lol. My first Mini was in 1994, alot cheaper then but alot more about. I always wanted a Mini pickup but a good one isn't cheap!!!!

What's wrong with the passenger in your lap, if she is cute enough, I see no problem. I think this car and driving style might warrant my favorite decal:'Get in, Sit down, SHUT UP'

I have always had a soft spot for the mini. Never owned one myself. Back in the early 90's a friend had a clubman. He would rag it so hard that he would blow the engaine. Then just buy another mini for £50 and change the lump. I think it was 6 changes in 10 months. Animal.

Looks awesome. Had a go of my mates and could not believe how much fun they were on twisty roads and round abouts. Just a shame with the rust issue, which I chose a VW Lupo GTi instead.

They are excellent on the corners. My older mini handled better than this one. Had 10' wheels which seem better for corners. I was thinking about fitting a Vauxhall 1.6i 8v. Would have been good for 100bhp+. There is a company that make all you need for the conversion- subframe, driveshafts, etc. They also do the conversion kit for a Vauxhall 2.0i 16v beast but I think you have to modify the body work. In the end I thought the effort and cost don't justify it. This was a basic sprite 1275 model- I did the minor alterations. Thinking back, I wish I bought a cooper- everyone always said 'is it a cooper?' to which I would put my tail between my legs and say 'no' lol. Also, on a bright day you could still see where the 'sprite' stickers used to be due to sun fading lol. Given the choice of a fun Mini or your GTi lupo my heart would go for the Mini but my head would have the GTi. Still fun and no Sunday morning rust treating!
