Hey there truck fans.
I had a chance to take some shots outside today (between rain showers) and thought I would share my latest build. Based on a modified SCX10 chassis with 35T motor, Hilux shell, RC4WD rims and tires and other custom made bits and pieces (brass sliders, mirrors, wheel hubs, bumpers, wheel wells, labels & lots of lights). I ‘rebranded’ the body by taking off the Yota insignia (fenders & tailgate) but have not decided on a grill badge yet. The colors RW&B are in support of my Son currently serving in the US Army deployed in the Middle East, the same rakish look I went with on the JK. I used my magnet body mounting system to eliminate posts and pins, and got rid of the ugly screw & post holes in the shell. The roll cage is from the original SCX10, but shortened, narrowed and chopped to fit the truck box. I’m still not sure about using the SCX10 front bumper, but think it works after cutting it up - and l like the extra lights, so it will probably stay. The labels & logos I made all represent suppliers of the parts I utilized in this build – kind of a pseudo scale approach toward a racy look.
The lighting was a lot of fun to work on and pretty much turned out the way I wanted it. The license plate lights are something I’ve never done before and the results were worth the effort. All LED lights run on 2 AA (3V) mounted in the body, except for the 4 bumper lights on the chassis. More light shots at night later – fun!

I’m really looking forward to an outdoor excursion with this, the JK and my brothers Honcho this spring, maybe even invite my vinties. Pictures of this - to be sure. Let me know what you all think – comments are always appreciated. Keep on creating out there!

I like these rims & tires - hand made hubs lots of decals 'sponsors' lights - the best part license plate lights! Tamiya roll bar lights

That's a very convincing looking Hilux. If I didn't know better I could believe that these were pictures of the real thing. I'm very impressed.

Wow, i like it a lot! I have the exact same rollbar-setup on my own SCX-based Hilux-scaler, and even the same rims.. However, mine looks more 'battered', lol..
Best wishes for the safe return of your son.

Cheers..

Very, very nice. Your trucks are some of the nicest on TC. Love the wheels/tire combo too. Are those axial doormirrors? I had those on my truck and broke 'em both on the first roll. Found some great rubber ones...

That is too cool for school, I like the second shot, looks near real. That must take some patience filling all the holes and painting that grill trim to boot. I know where to send my truck for work now.

Thanks Guys, I'm glad you all like it. I was looking for a unique idea on this one. Dirbee: the mirrors are scratch built, probably the first to go IF I roll it. gozone: thanks for your well wishes for my Son.
