MAD MAX Slash (JConcepts BAJR)
Always wanted something different for my Slash 4x4... finally I decided to build something mean lookin' based on JConcepts BAJR body! However I never liked the front end of that body much, therefore I left enough lexan on there to build a grill!
Colorwise I wanted to go dark, but not black. While spraying the tinted windows on my other models I had noticed that Tamiya Smoke on Red creates a nice rusty tone. So I started with thick layers of Smoke and backed it up with Red and Black and later added a flat clear coat on the outside. Now the car looks rusty red in the sunlight (pic #9) and almost black in the shadow! Then I added alloy window meshes, a roof rack and hood mounted headlights from Pro-line, a spare canister and last but not least a spare tire. I think the result looks pretty Mad Max! ;-) ...unfortunately the spare tire mount - a supporting alloy plate - proved a little heavy for the lexan shell and I discovered some cracks right after the first run but by using an even bigger alloy plate I was able to strengthen the weak spots and solve the problem (pic #10)! :-)
