Well it's been a long time coming but all the talk of the re-re Sand Rover got me in the mood as well as inspiration from superb projects from J-Man and Toykid. Before i go into details i have to say a massive thanks to J-man for the info and the amazing alloy parts he supplied, the front bumper, roll bars, rear guard and engine are all his items and the quality is second to none, perfect workmanship and fit. Thanks John you're a star!
The photos should tell the story but it's basically a cut up old sand rover chassis mounted onto a re-re Buggy Champ chassis. A pretty straighforward job with a few tweaks needed here and there to accomodate the suspension. I don't know why Tamiya never put this shell onto the SRB chassis as it's such a logical partnership!?
A full build article and more pics are on our website www.tamiya101.com
I plan to change the rear shocks in due course but i'm pleased with the outcome and the colour is stunning in the sun, Tamiya Candy Lime Green backed in silver then yellow. I painted this shell years ago but if i did it again i'd graft in a drivers seat where the passenger seat is to remove the battery hump and fill the front body mount holes. At least re-re shells should be cheap :-) I hope you like it and your comments are very welcome.

This is really a stunning job you have done, and you are completely right about the body on the srb chassis. It really looks so much better and more realistic aswell.

Great work again Steve, Tamiya should see this as the re-release, original style but improved. Such a simple conversion but with a stunning outcome.

Looks amazing, and I bet is fun to watch driving! Although it looks like there should be some sort of inner front fenders or something to keep the sand from filling the tub. Looks incredible tho!!!

Wow steve...Well what can i say mate.
Amazing what you can do with a car, Your photo's are so good If you take off the aerial you'd swear blind this was a real car.
Attention to detail is stunning and i'm really glad you left the front srb chassis exposed just like on the real VW based beach buggy's.
Speechless mate and straight into my favourites, all that's left to do is nip over to TAMIYA101.COM to read all about it
Many thanks for the mention and hope you all had a great time at shell island.
