nearly finished at last!!!
Well after waiting ages for a decent priced new original shell i finally fitted one hooray and it came at the great price of £12.99 from victor101 and jolly pleased am i. This car is all brand new from tyres, wheels ,shafts virtually everything except the shock bodies and the MSC . Just need to paint it and apply the decals and another car is born for the shelf. No it's not to everyones taste the manta ray but i like it's unusual shape... let me know what you think guys, regards hot rod
all that lovelly newness !!!!! 1 not an easy shell to cut though.

I actually really like the shape of the Manta Ray, so much so that I bought my old one back! Looks a minter!
hot rod
still need a new shell for my runner but that will be a TBG one... for a mint shelfer just had to have the original and got to agree about its shape stickerbod... nice to hear you got yours back, not bad little runners either. cheers regards hot rod

Manta Ray was my first restoration (1 year ago) - i love it, don't think 'll ever sell it. Might not meet universal acclaim, but those that have them love them.

Great job there, get it painted mate, i have just ordered a new shell and decals for my mates Manta-Ray i think they look awsome

seems there is plenty of ray fans among us and its nice to see, would love to do a different colour but going to stick to my shelf queen ideals and do box art.... when i get the TBG shell for my runner maybe something slightly different me thinks. Cheers guys

I like the Ray too!!
They have a neat shape!
This will look Awesome on the shelf mate!Nice one!!
hot rod
Glad you like it mad-bee, bit understated these and is still in the 1st 100 so has earned its place. Ps buddy have left you an e-mail, regards hot rod
hammerstien
looks great with a clear shell always like the manta m8 had one when they came out so mite just have to get one .
hot rod
@hammerstien, yes something quite nice about seeing an un-painted shell... kinda gives that 'x-ray' look, you can look beyond the body and see all the workings . As for getting one i think you should buddy, nice and cheap to repair and seem to be listed quite frequently on that auction site. Thanks regards hot rod

Manta Ray is one of my faves. Looks great unpainted!
hot rod
Thanks for the comments guys, just shows there is quite a few ray fans out there and this really has been a fun build, finiding all those new parts and most being really cheap!! most expenive being the shell and tyres but whole lot come in no more than a basic modern tamiya. An unsung classic. Regards hot rod

Manta Ray is a great car! I have a Dirt Thrasher and it runs really well, spares are reasonably easy to source.... RUN IT!
hot rod
@actualdat - the more i look at this car the more i come to admire it's quirky looks and yes agree it is a great car, this will be a shelfer though but it does have a runner sister so still can have plenty of manta ray action. cheers

@hotrod you have the best of both worlds... runner and mint shelf queen! great car, the body shell and hump kind of remind me of that Ridley Scott SciFi film Aliens!!
Just got a battered Fire Dragon This Morning, if I can get it looking half as good as your Ray I will be very pleased [and amazed to be honest LOL]
hot rod
i agree with you on the aliens comparison, is very out of this world shape wise- as for your fire dragon everything is possible, started this with a handful of new parts and many used ones then thought 'why not just start with all new parts' . All the used bits are on a 3rd ray chassis which is a bit battered but perfectly usable so may sell that on. My runner will get a TBG shell next year and a new paint scheme but this one is my mint box art and i love it. Cheers once again actualday.
