...been buyin' boats 'n' beetles !
This is another one of the models I have been, err... ahem !
Mark says that I should be wearing a stocking on me 'ead - 'cause it's daylight robbery - but he got a big boat, so...! :D
I saw this advertised 'locally' - and 'jumped' on it - immediately...!
I am not going to say what I paid - because that doesn't matter...
What matters is that these models are preserved - and brought 'back to life'...! :)
This Beetle is absolutely original...
It was played with until the 'lad' got fed up with it - after first breaking the front end and the bonnet - then it was put in the loft - and forgotten about for more than two decades.
The chassis is covered in dust - and the bearings are the original nylon rings - which are very good.
Almost everything is 'period' - just like a time warp.
Only the motor is wrong... I imagine the first was replaced for 'more power' !
Mark donated a correct one - and some 'bits' - so I can titivate the 'shell... for which - MANY THANKS ! :)
The nose cone mounts ( for the light bar ) are snapped off, and the light bar has been shortened... so that it stays fixed to the three spotlights - whilst those are bolted TO the nose cone !
There are scratches and scrapes - it is in a bit of a right 2-an-8 (as Arthur Daley would say)...
...but underneath - it's 'alright' ! ;)
It came complete with the manual ('so I can read about how to take it apart' ! ), a few papers - and the old box... and I think it is probably the best Tamiya 'bargain find' that I've ever found - or ever will ! :D
I think I shall just RUN it - as that's what they're made for ! ;)
Look out, beach !

Well - I now have three of these - though only one is a runner just yet - and that dressed up like a Scorcher...
...so I am only going to fix the bonnet - then run this one as it is - with spotlights bolted to a broken nose.
This stands me at less than what some folk here would pay for just a rolling red chassis ( and not even a particularly good one ! ) + some diesel...
I said 'local' because it wasn't really local.
It was 100 miles away - but I was already going in that direction ( for something else ! ) - and it was a day out as well !
So - if I smash it completely - it's no big deal... I can just use the parts.
