Stumbled across this Auto Tech M3 body on eBay listed as 'Vintage Custom Painted RC Car body AUTO TECH'. I put my bid in and won it for the princely sum of 99 cents! It's a little beat up with a few scuffs and splits, but not bad for a runner. What's more impressive is how such rare gems like this end up getting bargain-binned and generally forgotten. Shame to think that this probably would have gone into the trash had I not bid on it.

The wheels you see are another eBay buy from a seller in Hong Kong. They are a gorgeous work of metallurgy and look like an exact replica of the BBS wheels that commonly appeared on cars in the DTM racing series. I was a bit skeptical of their quality considering the eyebrow raising price that they were being offered at, but to my delight they are much nicer than I could have ever expected. They appear to cast and machined like the Tamiya alloy wheels, with the sandblasted finish to recreate the sand-cast appearance of the spokes. The aluminum seems to be of decent quality, but I did notice of few tiny pores here and there, so caveat emptor if you are planning to actually use them. More than likely they will end up on my Zakspeed 190E since that will be a straight-to-the-shelf build anyhow.

Thanks for your comment on the wheels! The wheels are exactly the same as the one used by the E30 M3 race cars during the early period (BBS E50). Just to remind you the centre is sandblasted, just same as Tamiya. I am sorry that the quality is not perfect but I hope you still enjoy the wheels.

Unfortunately due to the high exchange rate of RMB and poor sales, I don't think I am going to made more of these.

Anyway thanks for your support once again!

@ winkelhock: Thank you for taking the time & effort to produce such WONDERFUL wheels! The extra info is also much appreciated - the description for these has now been updated accordingly. The wheels are very close to perfect, so no apologies are necessary. Even with the few air inclusions left from the casting process, these must be some of the nicest after-market pieces that I've ever laid eyes on! So very sorry to hear that it's no longer feasible to produce them

...possibly the most realistic set of R/C wheels I have seen. ( ! ) -And they are true-metal!

You are giving me too many urges to go searching & spending, OCD!

Thanks Gamma! They really are some of the nicest aftermarket wheels I've ever seen. I've actually completely redone this shell in an entirely different scheme, and painted the wheel-centers gold to match. Stay tuned as I am going to upload a whole slew of new pics in the coming weeks...
