Floor pan is done n dusted! Now onto shell, cage, rear seats, speaker shelf & working sunroof casset!
Cage is going to be a bolt in type, with seperate front to rear parts that bolt together( no other way of fitting whilst painting before assembly). Going to be very fiddly on final assembly, as i have to fix seats, driver, harnesses etc to floor the cage to shell then shoulder harnesses to rear shelf, then windows in to finnish.
Have stared to make doors fit, alot of fit/sand/fit to get gaps & swage lines correct. I have very small magnets that i am setting into door jamb & door edge, so doors will stay shut untill pulled open. door hinges are going to be scale items made from brass for some working strength.
I am going to make a working sunroof, it will slide back & forth with the push of a finger. I have to get fitment just right & make sure there is enough room for paint but have a smooth action. It will be constructed like real 1.1 sunroof, so it will be a casset that can be glued in place once all is painted. I have left heater channels holow, so that i can run fibre optics from front mounted light box to rear lights & number plate light. Headlights will be led's as they need to be brighter than all others. Chassis is getting less & less like Tamiya unfortunatly! As i am now going to make a scale looking floor pan from alloy, so my plastic floor is fully covered& looks right from the underside. i have mocked up scale style VW rear suspension(just a bit oversized like Tamiya front). front Suspension uprights will be shortened to match rear, then all four shocks will be made slightly shorter to match.
The driver is going to take some fresh thinking to complete. I want to make his race suit from some kind of fabric? But not found anything yet that looks scale in its weave?? His boots/gloves will be painted. I think i am about 50% done on fabrication. i will test run once all in primer to make sure all works as intended. :-)

One word... STUNNING!!!!..
Kokuzu
What you did is easy.
You just did wash a 1:1scale beetle tub too hot and left it in the dryer for some days.
No other explantion how to get the details built up like that job
steerfromtherear
You got me bang to rights on that Kokuzu! Thanks gozone,
RACECRAFTERS
___________! = speechless!
Badboy
You're sick!!! (in a good way)
hammerstien
just WOW
humanzee
You're gonna break all this when you try to get in you know!
steerfromtherear
Ha yeah, I am not right in the head at times, badboy!
larbut
Holy macaroni! I have stripped a '64 beetle down to atoms, so I know that your details are correct. Truly impressive!
Tjaard
Could you please stop making us all looking like idiots? Keep up the good work!
Tamiyabigstuff
Amazing work ! Frame it and hang it on the wall
SRB Bloke
Absolutly amazing mate.. you blow us away with every entry in your showroom.
7.2inchdriver
At this point, it's a crime to put this on a standard SRB chassis. Time to build your own.
steerfromtherear
Funny you should say that 7.2inchdriver!! Well not quite, but I have sketched up some rear suspension that's more like 1.1 V Dub stuff! But still want it to be durable enough to run (not that I will, well I will test it for sure!!) so won't be totally scale. The front will be modified to match!
scoobybooster
Holy cow!This is mindblowing,indeed! You're an artist!
7.2inchdriver
Haha, I figured. It's funny when you get this far, you just can't cut corners. I had to take a break from my ogre project(a few times) because my mind just got tired of thinking about how to make all these insane details 24hrs a day. But looking at your updates over the past few weeks..... I think it's time to blow the dust off the old Jeep and see if I can't get it finished.
Toykid
I am sorry but this is completely mental I can't wait to see it finished.
stickerbod
Can't think of anything new to add, Mindblowing!
steerfromtherear
Thanks for all the comments everyone. 7.2inchdriver, i would love to see ogre project done, i always have a look see! I have a bit more motivation to get this done, as i added up all my parts invoices the other day, Gulp!! didnt know i had spent that much!! I have been collecting parts for this build for over two years £800.00 and counting so far!?! i must be MAD!! So i cant have this one taking for ever.
jeffy
Stunning..... you must have the patience of a saint. I like fiddling but that is way to fiddly for me. PHENOMINAL
CASE1
You must be fooling us one way ore another... but great to see your work!
CASE1
Rain suit material might be a fabric that comes close to scale as it is very thin. Or maybe kite fabric? Anyway, just build on
steerfromtherear
Ooh! Thanks Case1! I will look into both of those. No fooling going on here!! just obsession & not being right in the head!
Thanks for heads up.
Crash Cramer
This gets more amazing by the post. I love it, when you are done with the shrink ray, can I borrow it?? One word for Christian....OGRE OGRE OGRE OGRE. I love this stuff, I couldn't do it and keep my sanity or eyesight. really don't know if it was stock, but he one bug I test drove had a roller wheel kind of gas pedal, perhaps you can do that too??
Wyoming
need some old french fries and pocket change between the seats
slimmy
UNBELIEVABLE! AWESOME!
TamTom
This is overkill. Just insane what you are doing here. Amazing.
steerfromtherear
Wyoming, I am on it!
Crash Cramer, I am gonna throw shrink ray in bin soon! I want to enlarge models, (Porsche GT2 would be agood start!) I agree on Christian's Ogre, think we need a big TC collective 'OGRE OGRE OGRE' style chant! I looked into the roller throttle, but it seems to be older than the 68-69 type Bugs, I thought it would be better for off road if it had a full size pedal? Better purchase in the rough stuff & Albert can heal & toe with a full size pedal. The Kubel kit came with the roller type also, so that would have been to easy!
Crash Cramer
Wow, it was a stock option, I figured it was some sort of custom bit, I wonder what its preference over a regular style pedal was??? Now if you ask me, Albert is begging for the GIANT FOOT pedal.
steerfromtherear
Now you are talking! A giant foot pedal it is!!
IBIFTKH
There's skills, then there's insane skills, then there's this! Unbelievably brilliant.
steerfromtherear
Thanks alot IBIFTKH, have some parts under way that are gonna make this as real looking as I possibly can!! You ain't seen nothing yet!
Franklin
Great update- Looks absolutely fantastic! Keep it coming!
skywhelp
I really am running out of ways to comment on this one! I may have to invent some new words! I'm really enjoying every little detail you put into it, it's intoxicating!
steerfromtherear
Thanks Skywhelp, I will have some more updates in a couple of weeks!
smegs
just awesome
