Hi Team!

I think by now, all of you on TC know that I am a bit silly about these cars!? Well, yes I am..!! This particular car has already been seen in the background of various entries in my showroom and is but one of five that I own. It’s a very early original with the plastic of the rollcage molded in a slightly darker red colour. The Japanese owner built it as a youngster and it has had very little runtime. But for a small nick on the bottom of the gearbox case it could easily pass as a new built.

On arrival, it was covered in a sticky residue and the paintwork was starting to flake off. The driver was also unpainted and altogether, it lacked the sharpness that I was looking for. A total teardown ensued with all the parts being degreased and washed. The rear shocks appeared to have been polished at some time, but had since lost their luster. With all the alloy pieces on the bench, for a point of difference, I decided to polish everything before re-assembly. Admittedly a time consuming effort, but indeed a very rewarding finish. I retouched the body and made a start on Ray, but I must confess, I have still not finished him off yet. :) All screws were replaced with new.

After reassembly, I was very pleased with the results and it came up with everything that I wanted my Wild One to look like – an intriguing classic off-roader that still has massive appeal after over 25years since its introduction. There are a few unfinished details that still need to be attended to, but that’s the result for now.

Your comments are always appreciated and thank you. ;)

Thank you matman and Christian and yes, I think I might even regret it later. I just have too many unfinished projects and I feel guilty every time I look at Ray still only partially painted. It should however, be a very rewarding cherry for its new owner to top.

What a nice car, mine is all new apart from the tub and roll cage (tub not great to be honest!!!) still hope one day it will be 100% new and if it's half as good as this then the effort would be worth while... top notch buddy like it.

Cheers Wyo, berman and GingerSpice.

@ GingerSpice - you should easily be able to produce an appealing example if you have done all the prep work. It's always in the details.
