My girlfriend bought me this for my birthday; she knows how passionate I am about BMWs especially the E36. When Tamiya re-released this I knew I must have one, for the E36 represents the pinnacle of BMW engineering… performance, quality and longevity.

In 1/1 cars the E36 is my favourite all time car, the M3 and 328i Sports, both under M-Tec guise offer what I consider to be the ultimate road car; Power like that of a traditional muscle car, brain-full engineering to apply that power into a balanced performance and with the aggressive look, it simply is a wolf in wolf’s clothing.

It may not be Tamiya’s best kit but for me this is the ultimate NIB to own, a dream car! This is going on the shelf for a while as I got other projects on the go at the moment. It will give me time to consider what I’m going to do with it. Box-art? Build to shelf? Build to run? Custom build? I just done know for sure but in the meantime I can just stare at it from time to time and dream away…

Sweet kit, I have to get one of these, I had a 1:1 1995 E36 318ti Club Sport limited Hatchback from BMW Individual a few years back and wish I had never sold it

I think you should get some more BMW E36 kits. Then you can create several beamers in differnt styles for show AND for running.

I like the E36 as well; it's a great car. I recently bought the Schnitzer M3 Sport Evo TT01 mostly for the body; it would neat to see the E30 and E36 side by side...

@matman: Yes the M3 e36 is a beautiful looking car aswell as a feat of engineering. BMW made a car that performed and was as fast as a lot of the super cars around at that time but where 3 or 4 times as much and weren't as well made. @neobrunox: A brilliant idea. @Wyoming: I nearly bought an individual 02 Compacta and it was fast and a brilliant drive, the one I bought in the end was much better in terms of clean history, much lower milage and was almost like brand new. @hi-pe70: To be honest, if I was ever going to buy lots of the same kit, then this would be it. 1 for NIB, one for box-art queen, 1 for box-art runner, 1 for custom queen, 1 for custom runner and 1 for spares, I make that 6! Saying that though I like all the BMWs Tamiya make, so I guess over the next few years I shall attempt to get them all. Thanks all.

@speedy w beans: The e30 is a beautiful car in many ways, its has also become an icon amongst car entheusiasts, a milestone in car history like that of the VW Golf GTI mk 2 and the Audi Quattro of the 80s. Talking of side by side, I seen a picture once (and I severely regret not downloading it because I cant find it anywhere now) of the first 5 generations of the 3 series, side by side. You could see the progressive nature of BMW aesthetic design and on reading about these cars, the progressive nature of the engineering too. The e21, e30, e36, e46 and the e90 are history and poetry in car design and refinement.

With all the hype of the more headline grabbing Tamiya re-releases recently, this one has kind of fallen under the radar. I too love the E36 3 series - I especially like the shape of the 4-door, so sharp & subtly aggressive, especially when lowered with some big race style wheels, I owned a 94 325TDS which had been 'tweeked' a bit... I owned it before the current popular movement of performance diesels took off - was cool to own a car that I had once seen an indicated 160mph (on a private runway of course) yet would also do 45+ mpg - this kit reminds me of that car, I hope Tamiya releases the shell as a spare part!

@Rosey: When it comes to Mercs I love the really old ones, they're very prestigious and beautiful. From my personal driving experience though, I do prefer BMW, but hey we're all different and the roads would be boring if we all drove BMWs. @JYCM3: Yes I think an interior of some kind would suit this very much. @DerbyDan: Yes I completely agree, the 94 325TDS, wow! what a car to drive. Yes I hope Tamiya do the body set because then if I mess this one up I can just get another, or do another custom project.
