Over the years, I have collected many vintage tamiya models. I like to install modern R/C gear in them, so I can enjoying driving the model around in my home. Finding the perfect sized battery has always been a problem.... until now !!!
I simply converted an old Tamiya 6V battery case into a modern 7.4v battery pack, which fits perfectly in all my vintage chassis. Simply cut along 3 sides of an old battery case with a hack-saw (don't need to cut the end opposite the wires - as it can be opened enough to remove/insert the new cells). File out the wire hole alittle more, and a file a 5mm flat spot for the balancer wires. insert the new 2-cell lipo pack, along with some packing to prevent it moving around inside the case. I then just ran some clear tape around the opened end of the case to keep it looking vintage, and to hold it together. I managed to fit a 1800mah 2-cell lipo into the vintage case. I got mine from Hobbyking (see 2nd photo). I replaced the battery plug with a Tamiya plug.
