This Avante Black Special is my most recent kit build. After saving some money up I wanted to build a more-challenging kit and found this rare beast in my local hobby shop. $500 bought me a world of metal ball links, nylon gears, carbon-fibre, and four-wheel drive.

I enjoyed the build but ended up loving ownership even more. It is quite a machine, being more fragile than my F103 yet even with the stock setup the fastest chassis I have ever owned.

Currently I have it fitted with a Traxxas servo, an MTroniks Sport 20 ESC, a Super Stock RZ 23T motor, and a Spektrum SR300 receiver with a DX3C radio. I may fit a brushless system, but am content with the car's currently-waterproof configuration.

Optimistically I had it painted in racing colours using decals left from my GT-One builds, the Spektrum radio, and Venom batteries I use.

I have run this one for a while, but for posterity I do have the original decal sheet, completely untouched.

1 Hardly resembles a Black Special, but it is! 1 Assembling. I built this car mostly in secrecy. 1 Nearing completion... 1 The car first ran with a Sport-Tuned motor. 1 Then off to the bashing grounds! 1 We have lift-off... 1 One of my favourite pictures. 1 Rear suspension... Love the complexity! 1 The kids loved it - and almost never caught it... Now running with 23T of power and performance!

If you liked those pictures, you should see these...

Nice! Yes I think you are the 1st reported runner in TC, and the feeling to relive one's childhood drams equals to priceless moments. Plus the 2nd last pic with the kids reminds me of the weekends I have with my little brothers brings the generations together!

I wish i could have one of these, Proper retro ride. Good idea on keeping the decal sheet too for a re-shelling years down the line

That's a really nice looking paint scheme on this! Great that you're using it as intended also!

I like the paint scheme a lot. How do you like the one way center bearing? I have a TA02 Special Racing Chassis with that one way front bearing and I would not have it any other way. It makes anyone drive like a pro.

Thanks! I drive with the one-way centre bearing exclusively as this car has yet to see many jumps - for flat surface running, the one-way is ideal. I find turn-in to be great and the handling quite neutral!
