OK, a couple of updates.

Having spent a silly amount of time looking at the original Manx and Tamiya's Sand Rover it was clear Tamiya never shortened the wheel base (amoung other things). So I did a little research and shortened the chassis.

The more I look at the Sand Rover Vs. the original Manx the more I see the really big differences. The SR has always held a strong attraction to me and I have an original, so I can't wait to have this printed out so I can compare them side by side.

I have about 150 reference shots of MAnx's, the problem being that it seems there are so many copies and at least 3 Manx original variants. If anyone has any sort of technical drawings of an original Manx it would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime I am just building and rebuilding as I go trying to capture the magic of the original.

Rendered out to show surfaces better. Shorter wheelbase makes so much difference I think I will make this version :) Bruce Meyer in his Manx How Cool? Timeless 1

Pic #5 in my project pile as well.

You are a genius with that software. Looking good and it definitely seems a shorter wheelbase was needed. Its obvious from all you builds that your attention to detail is amazing so it's only fair and cheeky of me to say the reference pics have slightly smoother lines in changes of angle in the body shape. But I'm sure you'll get that with little sanding of the body after its been printed (who'd ever think we'd be printing new body shells)..

Again this is great work. You know that you're half way there to a 3D Tamiya racing game!

Hi James, great work. Google suggests that there's a US Patent for the Meyer Manx. There's a copy for sale on eBay where the buggy is drawn, but there are no measurements on the drawings unfortunately. Might be worth looking into?

Manx Beach Buggy's are were available in two wheelbase configurations. The first was on the original Beetle pan for the long, and 12.5 inches shorter, cut and welded behind the front seats to remove the rear foot wells to become a short wheelbase. Not very technical and many conversions were done over weekends in ordinary garages with basic tools.

This looks very cool indeed. As a kid I wanted a 1:1 beach buggy as much as I wanted a Sand Scorcher. Now I'm thinking my Frankenscorcher SRB could bring the two together. The shorter wheelbase looks spot on, BTW.

It just baffles me how anyone can do this amazing stuff. The SR does look so much better shortened.

Loving it! Are you addressing the problem with the shock towers? Would be a shame to have such a lovely body but have the shocks showing between the arches and bonnet. Great work so far...any idea when it will be 'for real' ?

Thanks guys. @ SRB Bloke, Steve, cheers for the input, yes things will get smoothed out one way or another @ Steffen, great, I didn't think of that, I'll check it out. @ Volksrod. Cheers mate, yes those shock towers will be replaced with shorter custom machined versions .

I lost my words!
How cool will be that! Matching wheelbase, and did I get it right, you will be printing out the body on a 3d printer???
Really curious about the next steps!

Sweet project James, and that military looking one is the coolest 'dune buggy' I've ever seen, I've never been very into these cause they are always to cutesy but like most off roaders make them a flat military color with steel wheels and suddenly I like them

Nice work, James---any chance you will sell the body and chassis plate as a kit?

Steve, that is the plan when it is ready, just add an SRB chassis and you are good to go .
