well, now that my monster beetle runner is mostly sorted out i got to work getting my monster beetle shelf queen assembled. all parts are NOS except the red chassis, which is in great shape but isn't new per se. the shocks were also part of my pile of yellow shocks and i plan to give them a rebuild and close cleaning before this is done.

the origianl body set is from TC member Danny (see, the runner shell wasn't a hack job on the ones you sent me!). i've started smoothing out the nose-cone creases with putty and will sand then get started with paint. am too tired to write more now, but updates to follow!

Pristine box art Monster Beetles are a sight to behold. She'll own that shelf.

Really charming,
reminds me that I still have to do my shelfer!
Wish I had such a beautiful new MB Body!
Only advice I have is that you maybe switched the front and rear springs!?

That is looking good beefy and you have the GUIDE BOOK in my face again. I think I would paint it a candy apple red, but I am partial to that color as I think even a Pacer could look cool sporting that color.

thanks christophe - do you think candy apple is better than the italian red specified? i already have 2 cans of the italian red... but cans of paint are cheap if the consensus is that another shade is better!

Hi Beefy, this afternoon I have been doing (as Crash Cramer says) ''healthy things'' so because of this running it took me some time to respond haha. Well done mate and thx for sharing the build. Extremely funny to see that ''my'' MB body is now on US territories. You will make it fully box art I assume? Or would you consider having it Dutch Orange? Please DO surprise us

@ruebiracer - is there something visible that would suggest they are switched? there were two sets of tensions and i put the slightly lighter ones in the back and the slightly firmer ones up front. not that this will ever be driven even for one inch! but i'm open to any input if i'm missing something obvious or important.

>> on that score, the resistor and MSC are newer (NIP) versions... so i think i'm going to replace them with the identical NIP versions. one other nit to pick is that the MSC control rod is too long, but i have the right one on its way.

Beefy, totally up to you on which red you choose. Here is one without decals [Click here] On the springs, the best way to check is to actually COUNT the coils on the page and the springs themselves as Tamiya did a pretty good job drawing them into the manual. I can't say as I remember which springs went where on my build so long ago.

danny - well, as you are aware NY was originally nieuw amsterdam. and since i'm roughly in the NY metro area, there could be a valid dutch historical claim to the land underfoot. and so .... wait, did you say you were running? what from? i always see people running around and i feel like i should calm them down and tell them that whatever was chasing them is no longer after them.

Great looking Monster Beetle, finelly one that is not painted yet! Love to see one that is not always painted in red, not that i like the red but there are so many more great colors then only red! A light bleu woudt look all so great on this Monster Beetle if you woudt used those decals. Give it a try, and you woudt pretty happy with the result!

Hi, then you switched them!
I just noticed, because I got my MB with 3 firm springs and only one light. So I took a deeper look in the manual I luckily got with the kit, and now I do have an eye for it! But that is no critic for your fantastic work, it´s just as you have such excellent parts in new condition, so everything should fit on this Beauty. So my vote is for sure Italian red, too...
