The legendary Sand Scorcher VW buggy is certainly a rather complex car to finish properly. Well, here's what I've been working on for the last six months.
For quite some time I've been trying to work my model car to make it look better, more realistic. I can say the 1:1 car that Walter Jelinek from the BugBox built in Germany really had an impact on me as a Tamiya enthusiast. Well, here's my cheap solution. What do you need to do it yourself? An empty coffee can, and a little bit of matt black paint!

Have a look at the pictures below. As Ace Frehley would say ''They're kinda self-explanatory'' LOL :D.
Hope this will help some TCers and their Sand Scorcher buggies. This custom work is something that can be perfected, so feel free to take the idea and make it better!
You all have a great Tuesday! ;)

Great! This is what I like about TC - we can all give each other ideas and create super-duper RC cars! Thanks for sharing! PS I'm concerned about the missing screws in your front wheels. Don't want to lose them in the desert...

mongoose1983

26-Feb-2013

@Eleck Rider: Thanks! Missing screws are not a problem... YET. The car has one front susp. arm broken, and I've never been able to find the two short arms for its MSC, so it is only been here sitting gathering dust

Very nice Job Erich and very well explained! Final result is great! I just would like a cup of Monterrey coffee now to complete to enjoy the work!

Crash Cramer

Great work again Erich, yet another way to think out of the box. I really should send you an ESC for this to run and you can put that MSC in the shelf display.

@BeetleOne: Ah, el café Monterrey debe ser mi bebida favorita en las noches mirando Tamiyas en TC
@CrashCramer: An ESC for a Sand Scorcher?

RallyeBaz

Great mod. Pics are very professional. Top work.

mongoose1983

26-Feb-2013

@MAD-BEE: The radiobox is the Kamtec aftermarket one. It's made in the UK, and it's very useful and much easier to deal with compared to the original one. I have to thank Andy Stickerbod who sent it to me a couple of years ago!
@Skottoman: I appreciate your comment, pal. Your custom works are always top-notch!!

YES EB, there was an ESC made by Futaba in that age, it is the MCII, or if you find an FP-MC108, it is also of the era. I haven't found an MCII for my collection yet, but I have gotten a bunch of older ESCs for my static display.

@CrashCramer: 2 or 3 years ago I happened to sell to TCer Live Steam Mad one incredibly ''funky'' early 80's Acoms ESC. The thing was so strange I did not even know what it was until he told me. It came to me in a bag of junk I got from someone from some big city on the East Coast of the States.
Now, last year I went to check the basement of the guy who I traded the BIGWIG buggy with. I was excited to find a bodyless Big Bear with that SWEET huge silver Futaba ESC! I really liked the chassis, and kept thinking how cool my SRB was going to look with that ancient ESC on. At first the guy said he'd take the used bodies of both, my Gasshopper and Hornet buggies in exchange, but then he backed and asked me to close the deal with some $$. That was it for me. No trade was done. But then again, the chassis and that incredible ESC were so freakin' cool!

@smegs: No problem, Lawrence. In a few days I will upload another how-to explaining step by step how to make the front ones (I have the pictures on my HD. Unfortunately, last year the couple of months when I was off I could not upload it. I think you're going to find it useful, too). By the way, thank you for the positive comment!

Yep, you got a pic of the MC-108, now to find you an MCii(capital II) so you would have the OLDEST that I think Futaba made, my sources tell me production was between Jan 79 and Jan 80, you might like this link [Click here]
