I recently purchased this used Avante 2011 for a good price. As you can see this Avante has had a few rounds on the track. With new tyres and bumpers, bodyshell it would come out almost like new, but my intent is to use it as a runner, so i will be keeping the parts as is on it. It comes with the Vajra Torque Splitter set installed. The rear wing will be replaced eventually...Anyway today I got stuck into dismantling and cleaning it up. I have worked on Avante's before but!!! and one big but!! was the liberal amount of Threadlock used on most of the metal parts and screws by the previous owner. Oh boy screw heads caked with the stuff. Even screws going into plastic Arghhh! I have spent most of today dismantling..Next will be cleaning, new grease and replacing any stripped screws. All great fun, i love a good rc service. I used 99% Isopropyl Alcohol on the blue threadlock and after 15 mins or so it turned it into a sticky paste which i could remove and free the screw or metal part. I look forward to getting this running in the back yard once its done up.

IPA threadlock sanity saver.

Nice work....this will make a perfect runner. I ran into the same thread lock problem while going through and modifying my F-350 highlift but I was able to chip off the dried globs of threadlock until the screws came out. Some enthusiasts don't realize that you don't need much thread lock to do the job and caking it on just makes it that much more difficult to get the screw out later. Isopropyl alcohol is a good idea...I'm going to keep that in mind.

Thanks R/CVET. Get the very high percentage IsoPropyl Alcohol works best. The lower concentration contains more water and could cause rusting with steel parts if left on for long periods and not work as well with the threadlock...I normally clean any metal parts afterwards with WD40 before reinstall anyways.

Hopefully we can get the next Perth meet off the ground and she gets a few more rounds on the track. Good timing M8.

That non-stock rear wing actually looks good on this car, and likely so much more durable than the original. Great find!

Nice Avante.
A warnig: take care with the isopropyl alcohol. It is dangerous for the environment and health.

Thanks Grastens and No Slack. As with alot of chemicals used in RC, yes wear rubber gloves and perform in a well ventilated work space!
