Happiness is a Tamiya PART I
TIRING TIMES:
Been a little poorly recently (better now though) and the stresses of modern life have worn me out a little of late…
ANSWER:
My birthday was coming up and my partner asked me, what would I like to do? I knew I needed some spiritual lifting and relaxation. My answer was to see the sea and sand of Borth, just over 2 hours drive from where I live, or just under 1 and a half hours after a good filter coffee, a liquid drum and bass thumping CD on and my old but trusty freshly valeted crisp and nifty BMW.
WHAT A SUNNY DAY:
The weather was amazing for a change, your probably aware of British weather and its lack of reliability. Sun all day and not a single drop of rain! A long beach walk, a picnic, a 99 ice cream and 2 hours snooze/basking in the dunes under the sun and it was time to go.
THE FUN:
I always take a couple of bashers on UK isle holidays now as you never know when opportunity will arise. On the way to Borth I noticed a small river with a stony edge and gritted car park next to it. It also had 2 small piles of road grit, one loose the other one set, and this was where VLB took most of her falls and crash rolled again and again and again. On the way back my partner took her beauty sleep and I ran my VLB and Lancer. It was brilliant! I had this whole place to myself. Had that much fun I forgot to take photos of the area, it was such a beautiful place and offered varied terrain. VLB got submerged in the stream, battered and thrashed to bits, she never gave up on me nor did she mechanically fail. Eventually she took one too many rolls and the receiver came loose and got smashed against the inside of the body and it actually broke apart. That was the end of that receiver but good old VLB is still fighting fit and now ready to roll again now fitted with a fresh receiver. Out came the 14turn motored Lancer VII, I’d forgotten how fast this thing was and did loose control of it a few times going fall speed in a straight up and down the country lane. I thought it was a good idea to go full speed in a straight line from about 200 yards away and then turn into the gritty car park for huge broad slides. Would have been lovely to have got it on camera and watch it back in slow-mo. The fast broad-slides where a great idea until one of those full speed broad-slides hooked up on a ridged imbedded stone and flipped the car violently. It was quite spectacular, it just rolled and rolled like a movie-car-stunt and absolutely battered the car. I couldn’t have got it to flip that many times if I’d spent all day trying to do that. Sad to say that was the end of the Lancer. The damage was that both rear tyres were ripped off rims, both rear rims cracked and parts of the outer flange/lip missing, the old brittle polycarbonate body is split all over and actually has holes in it with parts missing and both front upright shock mounting holes have split and both shocks came loose. Yet again, the Lancer is now fighting fit after a bit of duck-tape to the body, a bit of super super-glue to wheels and tyres and 2 nuts and bolts to fasten front shocks. Both now at rest until the next battle.
END OF DAY:
Off home we went, but with me grinning inside all the way. More coffee for the drive home was the order and a Chinese meal was picked up enroute. Now that’s what I call a good day of spiritual revival.

James, good to hear you're recovering! Looks like the VLB got a bit wet. Sounds like a very good day out (including the repairs needed at the end of day!!).

@smitchos: thanx mate, yes VLB went tyre deep at one point, I'll photograph it next time.
@al the mot man: fanx.
@JWeston: Fanx, mite do a spoof pack of cigars.
@gravetxt-1: thanx, my BMW is Metallic Stahl Blue, looks different depending on the light. Of the many photos I've took of it, sometimes it looks gunmetal, others light metallic blue and sometimes metallic grey with a hint of pearl-essence or even violet.
@Wyoming: shes fully waterproofed and has Sport Tuned motor, I use high quality 2200mah and 3000mah nimh batteries which gives her a good kick and a good sustained wheely.

What a great B'day.
Photo 2 is my favourite.

I know how you feel. Would love a time off, too. We have a couple of nice cities by the coast a lil less than two hours driving far from here but, see, I haven't touched the sea in ten years now. It would cost me over $50 just to get there by myself, so zero chance. Anyway, the LB is pure fun and no wonder it ''revived'' you in a way. I will be running mine in a very near future. Thanks for sharing these pictures. Gotta love the Lunchbox!
