Well I got the Frankenstein MIPish RC-10 4x4 running! I'm sure some of you saw the NIB MIP RC-10 4x4 kit go on ebay yesterday for $1600.00 USD. I obviously do not have the kind of cash flow to spend on something like that so the only thing left to do was make my own. I started with a beat up RC-10, fit a hacked Nitro DS Stealth up front linked to the rear Stealth with Yokomo chain and sprockets. The front is under-driven but it handled nicely on it's first few test runs anyway. It also sports Yokomo C-hubs and wheels/hubs, Tamiya TA-02 Knuckles and axle carriers, Dirt Thrasher dog-bones, an HPI rear sway-bar with drilled Tamiya ball-studs soldered, and RC-18 ball-ends for the sway-bar links. I also used a Pure-Tech battery strap, RPM ball-ends with some Tecnacraft links, Airtronics ESC and Servo and RC-10 labeled motor. I was wisely advised to support the chassis with A&L type braces, I did so with some boom supports from a 450 helicopter. Some things left to do are to cover the front gearbox hole and come up with a chain tensioner/guide and paint the old body that I recently stripped using Krud Kutter paint remover. I will probably do a final strip and clean and build it again with all parts dyed black (maybe). I want to do another 4x4 RC-10, this time a hybrid not using AE gear-box's! Thanks for looking guys!

That looks amazing, nice work. I have to agree with the 'why pay for a hugely overpriced original when you can build one yourself' idea. Sadly on occasion I have ended up spending more than the original would have cost! I have had some fragile cars in my time, is it just me or does it look like it is about to throw its toys out of its pram? Thanks for sharing, giving me some inspiration to start tinkering with my bog standard RC10 which is currently stripped to pieces. C..

Thanks MetBoy! I spent no extra money on this build - had all the parts in spares! I would love to have the MIP kit NIB but I'd want to 'destroy' it and run it, not collect it, maybe I'll find one used some day! LOL! I've spent a lot on cool NIB are rare stuff too, this is payback! It actually felt pretty solid, traversing the uneven slabs on the driveway effortlessly, the suspension worked well. I have so many ideas and RC-10's with a slew of parts (thanks Chris!). I was going so far as sizing up a Samurai/RC-10 - really the options are endless depending on parts and material availability. Have fun!

Nice work....looks great and reminds me of a much more crude FWD conversion I did on my Ripper 25+ years ago.

Excellent work, very clever stuff. Far more satisfying than shelling out an obscene amout of money too.

Now this I like! I think it actually looks a lot better than the MIP conversion and you saved a hell of a lot of cash too.

'Love what you have done here Road Burner. Very creative and cost effective. Those MIP 4WD conversions kits are certainly stupidly over priced.
