New Built, Box-Art Mardave Meteor
I started racing with a Hornet that had been brought for me as an Christmas present by my parents with the intention of getting me interested in a new hobby, it soon became apparent that the bouncy Hornet was not really up to the rigurs of 'proper' racing. Not being from a well-off family I had to wait until my birthday 6 months later to get my 2nd ever R/C car - A Mardave Meteor, this car was again a budget option (being about the same price as the Hornet) but proved much more suited to racing with oil filled shocks & double wishbone suspension at each corner.
Soon after realising that I had become a vintage R/C collecting 'freak' I decided that I wanted to collect the first 5 R/C model cars that I owned but had regrettably passed-on. Thats when I put up a 'Wanted' request here on Tamiyaclub for a good condition Meteor. I got offered this very fine new-built example by a fellow member who's subscription it seems has now ellapsed.... so i'm afraid I can't remember who to give credit for the very nice close-to 'box art' paint-job on the car's original ABS shell - it even has the rare driver figure fitted :-)
I had originally wanted to make this 'my-own' by using this Meteor as a base to build my 'ultimate' Meteor similar to the car shown in the 'Modified Meteor MK3' article in the June 1990 issue of RRC magazine, also the car that a fellow club racer & Mardave team driver Lee Romang & used to see racing Bitd - having also come across a NIP long wheelbase chassis & a few other option upgrade parts. I have now procured another Meteor that will become my donor car for this build so this car can stay in its nice standard un-molested condition!

A great-looking piece of history here. I'm glad you found an alternative donor.

Nice one Dan. Still to this day I have never witnessed a Mardave Meteor in person. I'd love to see one of these old girls on a vintage day. Thanks for sharing mate.

Looks excellent! I choose to go with the other theme as used in the Mardave instructions due to thinking the Red plastics wouldn't suit the box-art scheme - How wrong was I !!

@ KingCab06... I spotted your 'Instructions Art' Meteor the other day & it does work really well with the red plastics... I can remember trying to do something similar with my original Meteor, being white ABS I only needed to pick out the red details with the paint I'm afraid I cannot take the credit for the paintwork on this bodyshell, its very nicely finished & the blue has a nice deep metallic shine... I have thought about finishing off the stripe across the roof & up the spoiler as it does on the box-art car.
