No actual Tamiya Renault 5 Turbo was harmed in this build (so far)!

I've started painting the Team Bluegroove body, I have received the original stickers and window masks from Tamico (along with a nicely discounted M-06 RX-7) so I can mask the windows and have the proper window frames and lights decals.

I thought I'd need both the long TG10 wheel axles and +6 mm offset rear wheels. Turns out I was wrong (see pictures). Normal wheel axles and +6 mm offset HPI Cup 8-spokes work a treat and give a nice deep dish. The +3 mm offset front wheels are too wide, I'll source some +0s instead. I tried Tamiya's 'Minilites' but the have the same offset but less dish than the HPI ones.

Finally, I've tested the TBG 959 interior inside the body, and it looks promising.

+3 front, +6 rear with normal wheel axles With wide TG10 wheel axles, too much Tamiya Minilites still too wide, need 0+ offsets Getting there

Now a proper mid-engined rwd chassis, aka M-04SS: Part one

This is looking promising. If you can do it why can't Tamiya? A scale car with scale drive and performance = excellent car.

I've used the cup racer wheels on an Abarth, and the rear deep dish looks spectacular and gave the offset I needed. You do have to use the Cup Racer tires though. The Tamiya tires are concave mounted on there! Hahah... This will be a proper example once you pull it all together...

Ah, quick progress!
That interiour looks really good, Steffen. How about the details of the TBG body? Is it o.k.?
The rear wheels look really fat, maybe I have to order a set for mine too, for onroad purposes!
CanĀ“t wait to see the paint job!

@Skottoman: Yes, the Tamiya slicks are a poor fit on the Cup rims. Odd since the regular 60D threaded tyres are ok on the Fuchs wheels. I'll get some proper HPI Cup slicks when I order the 0+ offset front wheels.
@ruebiracer: You get what you pay for, the window lines are not as well defined, and the rear bumper too flat but considering how difficult it is to source the real deal it's ok for the money. Fineline-art are working to add window frames and masks to their decal sheets so you can build a 5 without buying the kit.
