My new racer: Team Durango DEX210
For the last one and a half years I've been driving a TRF201. It's wearing down though, and I was looking for something else: A mid-motor car which as better setup support (I seem to be the only driver in the Netherlands+Belgium still racing a TRF201, and that doesn't make it easy to make the car go well as a very average driver).
So I started looking around and managed to test drive several other 2WDs, knowing beforehand I wanted a mid-motor car. I really liked the Team Durango DEX210, and so it was a matter of time before I'd switch.
There are a few challenges though. First of all, the HobbyKing ESC and Futaba receiver I have are very chunky, and the DEX210 has a very tight chassis and bodyshell even for normal electronics. I'm in luck that I'm such a fan of Shorty LiPo packs: It allows the ESC to move in front of the battery by using a custom battery plate. I still need to modify the rear axles so they'll take TRF wheels, it'll be just too expensive switching to Durango wheels.
It feels pretty strange moving away from Tamiya for racing... so it better be worth all the effort :)

That's a really neat bit of packaging in photo 3 and 4. Looks like it will be fun and fast.

Thanks guys The DEX210 of a fellow club member was awesome in mid-motor on our low-grip, bumpy clay track - if it does well on that it should do well anywhere... so I have high hopes for this car. If this electronics layout has the right weight balance I'll have the battery plate made in carbon, and I may shorten the wires to the receiver to give it a factory look.

Traitor !
I DO like the look of that model, it is low - and it means business !
I wish you the best of luck !

Cool! Unfortunately a revised TRF201 has been too long in the making and the new chassis revision kits make for an expensive upgrade! Why they never released a new car is beyond me!

Indeed. Of course, they are releasing big bores, a LWB chassis conversion and a Mid-Motor conversion. These parts don't leave the impression to me though that they are looking to win big chunks of market share - so I'd still have the problems finding/making a really good setup. That, and the prospected sales price of either conversion is at the level of a new DEX210 kit, which is currently on discount at many stores. The Tamiya is by no means a bad car, but I need a car of which the local support at events is really good. A few months back I was extremely lucky someone happened to be selling a TRF201 kit at an event when I broke my chassis tub (the only spare part I wasn't carrying). I think that's enough said on why I switched

Nice buy! I personally love the Durango EP's in both 2WD and 4WD versions. I personally have a DEX410 and finalising the build process and reckon they are a work of art. Plenty of adjustability and a lot cheaper (both in terms of kit and parts price) than other brands including (no insult intended to the Tamiya brand) the TRF's...
