TC member JWeston alerted me to the fact that there will be some DT02 based madness taking place on Sunday 29th September at the Surrey and Hants RC Club. A whole race meeting using nothing but basic cars that weren't designed to be raced - what a great idea! There will be 2 classes Standard and Modified. Have a look at the Forum thread for the simple rules. If you have a DT02 based car you'll be able to enter at least one of the classes, come along for a laugh. A race track full of Holiday Buggy's and Sand Rovers won't be quite as funny as one full of Lunchboxes but it'll be close.
This is my entry for the Standard Class. It started life as a Super Fighter GR Violet Racer that I 'stole' from Modelzone for only £40 in their silly sale, shortly before they stopped trading earlier this year. I only bought it because it was cheap so it was a relief when John told me about the race meeting, otherwise it would have languished un-built in the box forever. All I've done is ballrace it and fit some proper shocks to it (the kit shocks are utter dross). Actually the shocks on it are optional ones that came off of my Ansmann Mad Monkey (a fantastic runner) and are very good, I did originally fit some 3Racing ones on it that I bought for a DF03 kit that I never used but took them off. The 3Racing ones look good and are cheap but other than that they don't have much going for them, the build quality isn't that good and they leak oil from every orifice as a matter of principle!
The motor is a Sport Tuned that I've had for ages but never used and the MRT VX Pro ESC is total overkill for it but it's waterproof and was lying about. Talking of overkill I've also borrowed a very good KoPropo digital servo out of one of my old touring car racing chassis, it's completely over the top for the job but it's reliable and tough. The tyres are kit tyres as per the race rules. I had to cut a little bit of plastic out the battery compartment to get my LiPos to fit but other than that fitting everything else in the chassis tub was easy.
All I need now is a Holiday Buggy or Sand Rover shell and I'm ready :)

Looks good and almost ready to race!

It will be good to see you and J there. All those HB's and SR's bouncing around the track will be great fun.

Don't underestimate that DT02 chassis. It can work wonders in the right hands and could very likely bring home a trophy! Top that off with an HB or an SR body and it's a recipe for fun filled smiles. 'Undoubtedly you're going to have a wild time with the Boys Liam. nJoY!

Nice one. It's going to be a great day

Thanks for the comments chaps. I'm fighting the temptation to get another car for the modified class I'm looking forward to seeing these things go round the track
