Found this recently! It's an MK1 Sand Scorcher that was mostly assembled, but never finished, and never driven. I've always wanted a MK1, and was happy to drop the coin on this fine example. It includes all parts, paperwork, decals, and even the original sales receipt. I'll box art the body and display this one. Looks like my MK2 resto project will be for sale soon!

Awesome find! Wow, very lucky. Thats gotta be one of the best and most original scorchers when its finished. Cant wait to see it. One thing though I thought MK1 's had a black front bumper? Cheers Marcus

Hmm, good question. I'm not 100% sure which bumper was supposed to come with the MK1. It's got the MK1 trans and front end though, as well as a sales receipt from 1980. It was on sale, marked down to $105USD! Wish that's what I paid for it! haha

wow what a find , i bet theres a few green eyed monsters looking at this , as for the bumper i believe and i could be wrong but the ranger and super champ had grey bumpers and the rough rider and scorcher had black but maybe the very early ones had grey . that doesnt really help much i know lol

I have no idea! The sales receipt puts this within the first year of production/sales for sure. The price drop on the box would probably suggest that it sat around for a bit before being sold too. The assembly was never even finished, so the chances of the front bumper being switched out at some point are not likely.

Thats a fantastic time capsule, the grey bumper is correct. I think only a few early releases had black bumpers, most had grey. Good luck painting that body. ive painted a couple of mk1 shells, use tamiya masking tape for a sharp line, I also used Halfords automotive paints which I polished to a high shine before applying the decals. Check out my show room. Best of luck.

Nice catch! Mk1`s had both grey and black bumpers depending on where they were distributed. I remember mine having grey. This should be an epic build Flat_Out. Enjoy!
