My version of one truly legendary RC vehicle!
This vintage RC monster truck started its life as a Midnight Pumpkin, and with the help of some TCers I got the bits to turn into a Lunch Box.
Yesterday, the girlfriend and I took it out to the San Cristóbal to run it for me first time (as a lunchbox). I thought it was going to be one super moment there, but after a couple of minutes of running the servo saver came out of the servo, and I lost the screw. I was gutted! I could run it for some more minutes using the screw from the MSC servo... until I lost it again. Seems to me I need a thicker one, or should I change it for the one I have working the acceleration.
Still, I had a chance to see it rolling and throwing dirt all around. A happy sight for sure! Too bad I wasn't aware of the problem before.
I liked the final version of the truck, although there was one little more detail that I wanted to get worked up, but I haven't been able to do so because I haven't found the proper material (YET). I am not 100% happy with the ''tone'' of the orange color I used (Testors competition orange) but I believe I did the best I could within my possibilities. Come to think there is no way to get regular orange in my country if you don't have your own compressor, which is a real shame.
Anyway, it's been a good experience and I am super happy with my version of one of the most legendary RC vehicles EVER.
Photos will do the rest of the talking.
You all have a SUPER HAPPY SUNDAY!!! :)

Nice result Erich. Shame about the first run issues though. I'm sure your next time out with this one will be failure free .

Looking sweet there mate! Loving the period correct radio too, my favourite brand! Funnily enough I had the same problem with an Acoms nylon servo and the 2.6 and then 3mm screw popping out, even with some CA in there. I eventually bought a cheap metal splined servo and used a 3mm machine screw with a dab of 248 locktite. Cant wait until the next outing, have fun bud!

Thanks for the update with your project Lunchbox! Superb presentation as always...I like to do a quick run inside before I take my cars outside just in case something falls off!

Nice colour! Very funky and that pic of the Rollin' Thunder is classic, haven't seen that in years!

Lunchbox looks great! I remember those servo horns keeps popping out on my frog before... A bigger screw would do the trick or a brace like the monster beetle might help..

@Cooltoys: Believe or not Nelson, just last night I was designing an alu brace like the MB's. Not completely sure I'll go through with it, but if I plan to run I have little or no choice.

Love it!

Very nice! & an all time fun Tamiya classic without doubt!

That does stink about the servo screw, seems the hole might be enlarged too much, could do with some new gears if you can find a donor servo or what about the blue Tamiya ThreadLock, any luck with that??
mongoose1983
@Crash Cramer: Not a min to try any fixing yet, Chris. I'll just start by changing the steering servo for the throttle one. I also have an idea about some aluminum bracket like the one from the Monster Beetle, just not sure. Got an extra work for November so not much time now... But I'll eventually get it sorted and will return with proper action pics of this one. Hopefully no rollovers!
