Well, I finally finished my replica of the Tamiya Falcon I had many years ago, which I foolishly sold.
It was quite a challenge to achieve this, as I had only a couple of photos to refer to, & gathering the parts was a real pain for obvious reasons. I purchased a few cars from eBay thinking a couple of them were in ok condition & others knowing they were parts cars. I then found a car that looked new built for a reasonable price from the Netherlands. It turned out that it was a new built, but very BADLY new built! The body, which looked good in the photos, had been painted on the outside! I will use this body for a runner I think.
I stripped the car down removing EVERY last screw, of which many of them were wrong. I suspect it may have been built from parts & used any screws available. I then built it by the manual, using screws etc. from the other cars so that it was as authentic as possible, just as I would have built my original. I ordered a new body shell from Kamtec, which fits great. The radio set is as close as I could find to what I had before, a “29mhz am Hitec pistol radio set”, which I recall the guy in the shop saying it was the latest thing out! . I am very happy with the result, and this car will stay with me forever. I have included a photo of the original.

Cool mate. The Falcon was my favourite of my original cars from the 80s. Im lucky enough to still have mine and have recently restored it and it now sits on a shelf. Check out my showroom!

You should make a glass cabinet or something similar to put this in with your photo of your original Falcon! A shrine!!

FALCONS always fly high and have a big place in the Tamiya hall of fame in my book!!
Great job pal!
I should do this with a Boomerang! I still have a photo of my old boomer! Would be tough though!

Fantastic tribute buggy. I really like the idea of replicating your first build. That's Ace!

Thanks guys for the great comments. Building this meant a lot to me.
Hmmm. A shrine eh? Worth considering MAD-BEE. It sits on a shelf next to my computer desk so I can keep a close eye on it.

Great looking Falcon, well done.

The Falcon also have a special place in my small collection, as it was my first Tamiya back then.

Well done! I picked up a black foot in about 1996 for $10 bucks off a guy at my highschool who was into building cars (full size). Oddly, that blackfoot, though a new build, was a catastrophe. I never touched it until a few months ago. I was amazed to see some of the stupidity that went into this build. The reason it was still new was that the car couldn't even run, the trans was completely bound. Amazing some of the stuff we find isn't it?

I find it hard to believe that people can spend all that money on something & proceed to ruin what should have been a great model. Untrimmed parts, no lubrication, too much lubrication, stripped screws....

Nice story behind build .
Just finished of my Meteor based on back in the day car .
Sometimes the less expensive cars can mean more if they are close to our hearts !!!
My meteor has gone straight in my favourites but is probably the least expensive car I own in my collection lol.

The Falcon was my first introduction to proper R/C cars and racing and will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish I hadn't sold the one I had to buy whatever it was I wanted back when I got rid of it. I think I'm going have to get myself one as my next project
