Clean and tidy up part 1
Well today decided to get started with the Madcap. First thing I wanted to do was to get the body started and see where stood with it.
So a quick clean and dry, started to show up decal issues and also paint flaking issues. The body had been painted with a brush with what looked like standard Tamiya acrylic paint. A light sand and it was still quite solid, so I decided to just touch it up with Tamiya acrylic White by brush also.
I then removed the window tint stickers that revealed some bad interior painting, so out came the white spirit and cotton buds. 5 minutes later and the cab window was looking very tidy. A tidy up with some Tamiya white acrylic paint around the window inside and then some smoke pint brushed onto the cab window.
Then came the decals. They were pealing everywhere, but were actually in pretty good condition, so I decided to keep the original decals and just use a non fogging loctite glue to gently apply to the peeled area and stick back into place. since this was going to be a runner I wasn't too bothered with it being perfect, but I am very happy with how tidy it has become. :)
Also decided to clean and rebuild the front dampers today. So a quick strip down showed some damage to both piston rods on the dampers. only had 1 new spare one, so used that it one of the dampers and the other rod only has damage at the bottom of the rod that doesn't actually reach the O rings, so again I decided to leave that for now. all parts sprayed with orange degreaser and scrubbed with a toothbrush, then rinsed and dried off. Then all rebuilt with some Tamiya medium damper oil.
And thats it for now. Will plan on getting the rear dampers done tomorrow along with the rear wing to tidy up also, leaving the chassis for the weekend.

the madcaps are great fun to drive. one thing to check before you take it out would be the diff. these are a week spot thanks to a combination of bad design and normally the person you buy it from building it wrong.
the cva's are a big improvement over the originals.

Awesome work so far and already looking better... not the time to do such work but pleasing to see what can be done. Look forward to the next update

Looking much better and I agree with sidewaysdave, it is a weak part and best to tear into the diff gear and make certain those wave washers were put in correctly and to upgrade those bronze bushings on either output side with bearings if you can find them. Here is a hint, one package of Avante bearings will do two MadCaps.
