Fun article from 20 years ago this month!

For some reason they featured the fabulous 53140 aluminum wheels but never gave any details about them in the write-up. I assume Tamiya must have been giving them this stuff to review, otherwise I think one would remember the amount of money these went for retail... Must have been great times to be a RCCA writer/reviewer!!

Love how the editor answering the guys request for information on the wheels states he doesn't recommend the reader to use them off road because they are so nice (and expensive), but that is exactly what they were 'advertising' when they tested the model??!!! This is my beef as well for Motorweek and countless other car shows, they PRESENT us a car specd in one way that was delivered by the manufacturer to 'sell' us on the car's pros and cons, but they usually end up with a test car that has every bell and whistle afforded to it so the car is as good as it will ever be coming from the factory. It would be a TRUE car test if they(the shows, magazines) were able to test ALL trim levels of the same car to give us raw data on how they felt the manufacturer did on the lower 'quality' cars as well as the high end version. I tend to buy what I can afford and then later add to that base vehicle the things I can further afford as we continue to own the car, wheels, radio, things like that.
