Lowrider Fighting Scorcher.
Having finally managed to source another Sand Scorcher XB finished body, after stupidly selling the first one that I owned, I decided it was time to get some photos done.
I decided to do it with a twist though, so fattened up it's rear end by fitting parts from the Super Champ re-release and then slammed it down at the front with the fitment of Avante front dampers.
Finally, it was topped off with Jun Watanabe Hornet wheels & tyres, SRB Bloke's custom exhaust and a j-man front bumper.
I'm happy with the result. A Lowrider Fighting Scorcher with attitude. :)

A mean machine indeed!

That is one sick SS. Very menacing looking. Looks real fast standing still. I love it great job
Wandy
Cheers guys. It is pretty angry looking and I like it that way.
casethejoint
Oh yes! I love black wheels on this chassis - totally works. Mean looking bug
Wandy
Funny you should pop up and say that casethejoint.. I actually took some inspiration from your Super Champ for the wheels as you are absolutely right, they go really well on this chassis.
Basket Case
Great stance. Looks nasty!!
SpZero
sweet ride the rear looks very purposeful.
Grumpy pants
My favourite Scorcher so far. Really, really cool. Straight into my favourites 😀
Wandy
Cheers Grumpy. Still time to get yourself an XB body.
moffman
that's one hell of a twist mate! three cars into one you should get a job with the Tamiya design team!!!! very sweet!
Wandy
Thanks moffman....I like your way of thinking.
Grumpy pants
You're right Wandy, there is one left and I've got a set of vintage Super Champ wheels in stock that I've been saving for my next Scorcher and some Tangerine Ritedye to make them pop! I would never have come up with the F.S back end or Avante shocks, they really make the look work a treat.
Wandy
Do it Grumpy mate. I know that the price of the body is almost scarily expensive but think of it as an investment. If you ever wanted to sell it you would get your money back...and then some. I sold my first body for £161 two years ago, although that was a mistake that I thankfully have been able to rectify.
If you do go about fitting the F.S parts bear in mind that you will need to acquire the whole rear end parts, ie gearbox halves and suspension arms too, as they are different to the Scorcher's. You cannot simply bolt on the rear damper and bumper to the existing Scorcher set up.
SRB Bloke
Wow, stunning car. And what an amazing stinger a nice low stance at the front.
Wandy
Haha, yeah the stinger is cool isn't it Steve? I cannot for the life of me remember who I bought it from but I'm sure it will come back to me soon.
RACECRAFTERS
Your SS has come out looking super angry Wandy! I've noticed your tail lights were also inverted, like mine, from the factory. A quick swop over should have it sorted. Nice work mate! I'm waiting for RCMart to re-stock on their Fighting Buggy. I think it's better that the vintage original and nicely priced too.
Wandy
Thanks Mallo...well, well, well...I never even noticed the tail lights being like that, in fact I will probably just leave them that way for the full factory authenticity so that it is even more valuable in the future.
The Fighting Buggy is indeed a great kit and, as you can see, the metal parts are beautifully crafted. Look forward to seeing yours on here mate.
RACECRAFTERS
In many ways Wandy, the rear end of this thing reminds me very much of my original Mk1 SS I had as a kid. I had installed the wheels of my Frog to give it that b!g ass'd look! Love it Mate!
Wandy
Yep mate, the Scorcher very much suits being fitted with The Frog's fat rear spikeys.
MAD-BEE
Shot 1 is so very cool! With Grumpy Pants Ranger & your Scorcher both in mint condition looking so shiny my latest original Rough Rider project looks a right banger! lol but hopefully it will look good in the end!
plus should be a whole lot of fun to restore!
Nice choice of rear tyres! great on the beach! but i doubt this will come off the shelf!
Wandy
Thanks MAD-BEE, it's always nice to have a mint condition example...but the old originals that have seen plenty of heavy use have a charm of their own...after all these things were meant to be run...even if most of us here on the club tend not to do that.
Your Rough Rider will come up looking great I am sure, just like your other projects have done.
Gosan
Very nice. Love the combination of the Scorcher and the SC. It's many cool painted scorcher's here on TC, but i always ends up with liking the box art best. Well done!
Wandy
Thanks Gosan. I can see from your showroom, and your own very cool Fighting Buggy, that you know very well how nice the Super Champ re-re is to put together.
Gosan
It is for sure a nice kit as all other Tamiya kits also are, but the SRB's are my favorites. Waiting for the Ford Ranger😄
MAD-BEE
Mint new re-re cars & old original's cars can live in harmony!
Lowrider Fighting Scorcher with attitude gets my vote!
matman
Sweet! Ride . How do the avante shocks go ?. Do they work etc . You have nice twist on this .
I like it a lot , Very nice job there M8 , Well done for thinking out side of the box .
Colt Seavers
The car looks fantastic Andy! Black wheels always seem to make a nice aggressive improvement in appearance to most models. The way it is slammed, combined with the extra details, adds even more to the overall package. Good work!
Wandy
Cheers Steven, I can only agree.
Wandy
Matman...the Avante front dampers fit on very easily and are a straight swap for the standard items, simply fitting the rubber inserts into the eyelets. However they are impractical for actual running as they are too short to actually allow any movement of the suspension....I only fitted them for show. However there are two ways to actually make them useable....either grind off the bump stops of the front upper suspension arms, or mix and match the Avante damper parts, fitting the front damper piston rods into the rear cylinders so that the length from top mount to lower mount is increased and more suspension travel is allowed. You would probably lose some of the low slung look at the front though as the natural ride height would be higher.
mackerb03
Wow that looks awesome Wandy great vintage bespoke build there buddy top marks!!
JYCM3
That is one sick SS. Very menacing looking. Looks real fast standing still. I love it great job
Tamichael
What a beast !! I love it !!!
Toykid
Looking really good dude. This is exactly how I dreamed about building a SS back in the day. Love it!
IBIFTKH
Awesome work Wandy. It really is one of those builds where every detail looks perfect.
carbonman
Great mod, love it!
casethejoint
I think I stole the idea of black wheels from someone else on here, otherwise I'd claim it was all my idea . SRB's also look great with black wheels with a trim between wheel and tire (eg : [Click here] ) which is what I'm going to do with my Ford-150 SRB project.
Wandy
Yes, that's a nice look. And there is nothing wrong with a bit of plagiarism.
SRB Bloke
I forgot I'd seen this beauty before, I think my old age is catching up on me.
But it's that cool it needs another thumbs up
Wandy
Haha, yeah it all started with your exhaust Steve.
Steph33
This body fits perfectly. The black wheels give it a superb look.
Bravo!!!!
mtbkym01
Wow Andy, cant believe I haven't seen this before, what a beast, Awesome job mate, I absolutely love it, so Phat and aggressive
Wandy
Cheers Kym...yeah I have had this one for nearly six years now. Still one of my favourite models.
