Don't ask me why, but I always liked the 1/32 scale Wild Saurus mini 4WD. I think it's the slightly mad sci-fi look. Combined with my little obsession with Wild Willy and the WR-02 chassis and, well, you can see where this is going - Rob's got another mad project!

A WR-02 chassis, a lot of plasticard, a length of plastic pipe, a few LEDs, some Lego, a lot of head-scratching and some language I wouldn't use in front of my kids - and this is the result.

I must admit I'm pleased with the way it's turned out. It's certainly different, and it does look kinda cool whether it's driving around or sat on the shelf. I did fit some underbody lights but they got detached and damaged on its first run so they've been abandoned for now.

It's not completely accurate compared to the 1/32 version, but I hope I've caught a bit of the style and spirit and silliness of the original.

Hope you like it,

Cheers,

Rob

It is crazy, it is cool.
I just smile when I see that many Nos bottles on any car.. By now, I'm sure your house must be full of Willy's in every room, if you know what I mean You've built so many now I'm guessing you'll be opening a WR-02 Museum soon

It is absurd - I LOVE IT! The details and proportions are excellent, and your scratch-building skills first class! We need a WR-02 meet this year ;o)

Just Brilliant, I like the LEDs in the pods and the 4 NOs bottles, that must be 1 bottle for every 3 cylinders

Very cool custom and the LEDs remind me of a few flashlights I have seen and have. Willy looks the business and I was really hoping you would shoot the small and large scale cars together in one photo. Please.

I love this! It just needs some pictures in a big dusty/rocky field at night, lights ablaze - like a space rover exploring a distant planet

Oh, and seeing this alongside JennyMo's StumpKamper on the TamiyaClub website is a real treat!

Thanks all.

@SRBbloke, yup, I've got enough to put at least one Willy-driven car in each room! (Small house, lots of cars!)

@JennyMo - yup, WR-02 meet would be great.
@MadInventor - you know me, my models aren't complete without at least a couple of NOS bottles!
@Crash, sorry, I don't have the little version. I built this just using phtos for reference.
@Grastens, yes, it definitely needs a more inspired background than my garden! I'll have to find a better location for photos.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Wow, that's so cool! Great custom build, I had to look up the mini 4wd on Google as I couldn't remember it - that's the kind of crazy thing I'd love to have owned when I was younger

Rob you is the boss man!!!

Very cool, will have to remedy the fact you don't have the 1/32nd version. I agree with Grastens, needs a Red Planet or Space 1999 moon/asteroid scape for some coolness with the lights ablaze.

Thanks again for all the kind comments guys, it's very much appreciated. You could say Willy's over the moon!! (Sorry, couldn't resist!).

I'll definitely have to get a 1/32 version too.

And if I can find a better background location, more pics will follow

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the kind comments

I definitely think it's supposed to be some sort of moon buggy/inter-stellar exploration/sci-fi type thing. Though now you've said it, I can see the Judge Dredd influence too. Who knows? The mini 4wds had some pretty wild designs.

Col, cheers buddy! I reckon between us, our kids and our cars we could have a respectable meet on our own! But a proper meet would be cool.
